An old saying comes to mind " those who pray together stay together" and this includes those who do not belong to an organised religion or a particular faith. According to an American Religious Identification Survey the divorce rate among JW's compared to other religions is only 6%. Keeping in mind stats "can be manipulated" although it appears consistent in many stats that in fact the JW divorce rate is lower. The low divorce rate for JW’s and other religious groups give no indication if marriages are happy or not. Another interesting stat - Atheists had a lower divorce rate than many Christian groups. One explanation is that they do not rush into marriage just to legitimise having sex.

It is hard to find real scientific data on just one demographic group, such as only Jehovah’s Witnesses. If you ask a Witness about the divorce rate they will probably tell you, “Oh, it is much smaller among the Jehovah’s Witnesses than in society in general”. Is that really true? I know that in my experience I have seen some strong married couples break up that I thought would stay together forever. Jehovah’s Witnesses are subject to the same daily pressures as anyone else. We are exposed to the negativity and the immorality that this world bashes us all with on a daily basis. Does their Christian training benefit them in applying Bible counsel in their marriages? Interestingly, in Moscow, Jehovah’s Witnesses have come under great fire and opposition from the more established churches such as the all-powerful Russian Orthodox Church, which evidently has been lobbying the government there to ban the witnesses completely, or at least to make life as difficult as possible for Jehovah’s Witnesses. One charge that has been hurled at the Witnesses is that they break up families. Because of these charges, The Russian government launched several studies to determine the facts. Here is what they found. “One sociological study entitled The Family and the Bible, conducted by A.I. Antonov, head of the Department of Family Sociology at the Lomonsov Moscow State University, established that the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses "plays an important role in strengthening the institute of the family." In particular it shows a divorce rate among Jehovah's Witnesses of less than 5 percent compared with 40 percent among the general population of Moscow. The study also revealed a much higher level of education among Jehovah's Witnesses (when compared with that of the average Muscovite), which tends toward independent rational thinking and decision-making. "Tolerant attitudes and conduct improve the longer a person is a Witness," said Professor Antonov”. The 6% number is wrong. They do not count witnesses who have gotten inactive or who have been disfellowshipped prior to divorce. Most JW's who divorce have had marital problems for years and have gotten inactive, they are not counted. The numbers would be much higher if they did. Probably the biggest reason for JW divorces is that young women are taught not to think for themselves (let Elders and parents do that for them) and that they should only marry ministerial servants or elders (even if the guy has all the personality of a TOAD), so they end up marrying men they don't love. Ten years later they 'wake up' and then the marriage slides off into problems and divorce. It doesn't really matter if the man has committed the adultery or not, that's just his way of getting out of a disfuntional marriage (shouting, bickering, etc.). JW men don't marry for true love much either, once they get the brass ring of ministerial servant or Elder, they feel they are entitled to a ten or at least a nine, skinny perfect women need only apply. Women who are plump or only 20 pounds overweight or are over 30 years old are shunted aside and made to 'pioneer'. The JW marriage system is disfunctional at best. The seeds of disfuntionality are sowed before the words "I do" are said. By pressuring and mandating by Elders from the platform for there is to be only marriages between sisters and MS's and Elders, the Elders in effect get to decide who gets to procreate and who doesnt, since they hand out those titles. Thus you see thousands of 'Earnest Young Men' vying for the opportunity to get those titles just so they can get married. It's a control technique. The act of marriage is a Human Right, not a privelege dispensed by JW Elders. Forcing women to marry men just because of a stupid title will not insure future marital happiness, conversely how would you want to be the guy who was married by a woman only because of a stupid title?

why? what does it matter? what is the divorce rate among mankind? is not profiling....

I would imagine it is the same as any Church. I would imagine that the rate is lower in the active members as it would be with regular church goers. Nobody is sheltered from that.

Of course Jehovah's Witnesses have lower divorce rate, because of one simple thing: those who divorce most of the time will be no longer Jehovah's Witnesses. Witnesses only accept divorce if one made adultery. So in a divorce either one of them (the adulterous), or both of them (most of the cases) are excummunicated. This obviously lowers much the divorce statistics, but it's not the whole story.

compared to other religions, our divorce rate is small. however, it is far more common than when i was growing up in the congregation where i learned the truth. back in the 60s divorce was unheard of in our organization, how times have changed!
