What does it mean when someone says you're hard to read?

My understanding of the phrase "reading" someone is mainly that it implies how to judge, interpret, or understand someone's emotions, persona, intentions, or general character traits. Usually people who I think are "hard to read" are those who are very guarded of themselves, and make it difficult for people to get to know them well by revealing what they are feeling or thinking. From my experience, people like this can almost have two different personalities, an extroverted side that they reveal to people and the other side being the person's true, inner self.

That you're difficult to predict or anticipate.

It means that they are unable to figure you out. You may have reacted to a situation or to them in a way that they did not expect or do not understand. because of that you could be interesting or mysterious which are both attractive. It could also be their way of saying they would like to know you better.
