The second amendment is a natural concept of a right to self defence. It considers an armed populace as a national defense against possible foreign and internal (the government) tyranny. In the UK you can own a gun if you have a license, and there are mental health checks with that, but people here still get shot by unlicensed gun owners, and there are stabbings daily, many gangs now carry zombie knives as weapons, people use screwdrivers and all sorts as weapons. So yes, killing is immoral but in the constitution guns are cited for "self defence." If our own government in the UK turned on us, or foreign invaders, what would we turn to for self defence? For me I think many songs promote gangland culture, so the music industry is culpable, they also demean women, there's things that could stop promoting violence, and so adding to the problem. There needs to be more funding in encouraging children into early disciplined interests so they are not vulnerableto these gun gangs. But this country has become a push over, elderly people are being stabbed in their homes, gangs of youths are just walking into shops and walking out bags full of goods, quite openly no shame, and that passes onto the customer, because all the shops do is hike up the prices, this country is currently a cabin boy, it's getting royally buggered, and the innocent have no self defence.

Shadow Of The Mind The world of people just gets worse. I am safe enough where I live but just observing how things are in the world. There is a lot of evil people in the world in many forms. There is every reason to hide from the world we live in to avoid the violence and wars going on so the good people can live their own lives in peace. The world needs more people like Bruce Lee because the only weapons we need are the hands and feet for self defence. I am aware that people have invented weapons for violence and war for centuries but there are the 2 kinds of people in the world which are the good and the bad. -
⭐️Creamcrackered I get where you're coming from. I know statistically that many murders are spare of the moment, and unintentional, so that could be anyone. But there are psychopaths, sociopaths, Narcissists, not all are killers. Upbringing can play a very important part, hence to be able to prevent say victims of physical or mental abuse, from becoming violent themselves etc, would be useful. Some jobs require a person to be able to kill, like soldiers, police, Navy, RAF etc Then on top of that you have mental health problems, a lot of shooters in america have had mental health diagnosis', you also have religious fundamentalism, with in and out group mentality ie "we are gods chosen and you are the enemy." You have assisted suicide, some would see it as merciful, others murder. You also have some people in elite societies that would see poorer people as less than, ie"commoners" as seen in Darwins book The Descent of Man, this can breed eugenics, where some people think others have more right to live, because they think they are of better stock/genealogy, or more intelligent, there is a long history of illegal experimenting on humans. I could go on, and it could get really depressing. Where is the line between self defence and murder, and what constitutes murder, is it the weapon? Is a sane person with gun, on the same level as a sociopath with a knife in their possession, more or less likely to kill someone. What about a mother who's children are all murdered, and she shoots the killer? People can kill eachother with there bare hands, this happens in many domestic violence cases. For me, I feel, it isn't black and white, and perhaps the motive to kill, comes from different compulsions, situations, and mental states. I am more rural than where I was Shadow, but I wouldn't want to walk around the town in which I grew up in alone anymore, and that was just a small town with alot of heritage, now it's a complete sh'thole, it's sad to see, so do we just keep moving? I'm glad you're living in a safe place :) -
⭐️Creamcrackered When did you move to Ireland Shadow, I was just curious? -
Shadow Of The Mind I understand what you are saying. The world is messed up. I believe it is the weapon that constitutes the murder. I think a sane person with a gun is not on the same level as a sociopath because they know better. A sane person has sense I think if they only hold the gun and not use it on someone first. If a mother’s children are all murdered, it would be the sensible thing to bring the killer to justice in court where they are guilty of the crime and put in prison for life without parole. Killers do not deserve to be in public. The police should just throw the key away once the killer is in their cell. Just keep moving. My main question can lead to a very sensitive subject of conversation. I am an Irish citizen. I have always lived in Ireland. Have you always lived in the UK or other parts of the world as well? -
⭐️Creamcrackered It's OK I don't shy a way from sensitive topics, I've encountered some pretty violent individuals in my life, and I can say, the justice system isn't what I thought it was, any decent copper (also a rarity these days), will admit that there's no justice in the system, just by the insanely short sentences that paedophiles receive. Our prisons are so full now, Starmer has let some out on early parole, and then of course we have people being arrested for comments on social media and being put inside for 2/3 years, it's insane. I had a stalker, violent history, years of it, he got a suspended sentence, that's it, I read the book, The Secret Barrister, that will explain that the court system is designed in favour of the criminal. 1) You have to have sufficient proof to bring a person to court, because a court case costs at least £5,000. So just getting the crown prosecution service to take it on is hard enough. Then what happens is the court date will be set, sometimes over a year away. Then the defendant will delay as much as possible in order to put more time between the offence in order for memories to fade in their favour. Even if you turn up at court, the other side may delay with excuses such as not having all the proper paperwork, sickness etc. Finally, once it goes to court the process is extremely hard for the victim as the defence will outwardly lie, gaslight, and attempt to counter claim, no matter how outlandish these accusations may be. Then finally if you do win, the defendant usually ends up with a ridiculous sentence compared to the crime. Also, bear in mind the victim and any of the witnesses put themselves at further risk of threats during the whole process, and afterwards from the criminal. Hence, as a result both victims and witnesses having experienced the system, are less likely to ever put themselves through it again, if anything further was to happen to them or anyone else. It's as bad as it gets. It's geared towards rehabilitating the criminal, not getting justice for the victims suffering. I suppose when considering guns and self defence, I think about what I would do if some gunman broke into my home and started shooting, my instinct would be to defend myself and my children (if I had them), or any of my extended family, I wouldn't wait around. The police can take up to 45 minutes to attend a 999 call, I know this from experience, I'd be dead by then. I was born in the UK, Shadow.

American gun culture still invokes the "Wild West" imagery of widespread ownership. For many who keep an image of America’s past, gun control is like that, a battle steeped in American tradition.

American law allows gun ownership because the Constitution protects it, not because lawmakers think harm is good. The Second Amendment was written to guarantee people the ability to defend themselves and to prevent the government from having a monopoly on force. Whether someone personally agrees with that or not, the legal system treats it as a fundamental right. 4/22/26
