Why are gentle people usually the ones who get bullied?

Often because they won't/can't defend themselves against the bully. Many people are cruel and like to create victims out of those people who just hope they will go away. IMHO. 2/22/26

essentially because they are weak and the others see that. Plenty of them play the the victim constantly these days.

They think they can exert more control over them, they may filter louder, more opinionated people, as being more difficult to control, manipulate, or bully. People are created to a large extent by their environment, a bully often lacks self awareness, empathy, certain social skills, and may display narcissistic traits, if a child is under disciplined they can present as being self entitled, or if over disciplined, can present as insecure underneath but demonstrates bullying behaviour through fear of feeling inferior, it's messed up and not straightforward. Bullies will pick on many types, some will go for a louder type seeing them as competition, but quieter types they see as weak, instead of the truth, which is that they are more together, with no need to control or manipulate others, which is normally the case

It's like the story of the snake that took a spiritual teacher of non-violence. Once the other animals realized he would not harm them, he got bullied and beat up He goes back to his teacherwounded and weak asking"I thought non violence was the way. Not sure now." Teacher responds " I told you not to bite, I didn't tell you not to hiss!"
