Maybe sarcasm is something you are not used to but I’m just guessing. Perhaps the people you’ve encountered in life have never been sarcastic towards you.

Because essentially, sarcasm is hostility disguised as humour. It is mask to keep real feelings at bay, and uses derision, mockery, and ridicule. However, it can change depending on country, in the UK it's very apt to be sarcastic, in fact men use it to bond with each other.
