Why do some people find it difficult to spell the word "stiletto"?
Why do people put an extra "l" that doesn't belong in it and drop a "t" that does belong there? Not only does it look wrong, it looks downright hideous. Why can't people see that?

I don't think they really do, they spell it wrong on purpose to be trolls.

I do add the extra l, and get spell checked.

A lot of people don't know the difference between there, they're and their, or brakes and breaks, so it shouldn't be surprising when they misspell any word with more than five letters. I consider myself a pretty good speller, and I would probably misspell stiletto without autocorrect.

Carelessness, mostly. Every browser has spell check, and people who don't have strong spelling skills should use it - hell, they might even improve their vocabulary. I, myself, use Grammarly. It's free and works automatically (as long as you're logged in). It works not only for spelling but helps to improve punctuation skills as well.
