• This is not new, emergency rooms in hellish areas are full of wounded criminals often dragged in kicking, screaming and bleeding by police. Sometimes there are even more shootouts.
    • Archie Bunker
But they went beyond the emergency room. And why should the city be responsible for his bills? Why use our money to pay his bills since his injuries are a result of his own decisions and actions? Legally, the city is not responsible because he was not in police custody when he was shot.

You pay for it anyway, as indigent patients are treated in hospitals as charity care.
    • Archie Bunker
Then the hospital eats the cost, not the taxpayers. The city chose to take tax payer money and pay. Then hospital would try to recoup the costs from the patient. If they can't, the would try and get their money from Medicaid. And if they still don't get paid, it would be written off. It would not come out of the city's coffers.
  • If your country didn't have for-profit medical it would not have cost so much.
    • Archie Bunker
"Free Healthcare" (government healthcare) is much more expensive. Competition is what keeps the prices down and quality up. That's why it's called a free-market economy. If you have no one to compete with for services, quality goes down and prices go up. Just look at the VA.
    • Linda Joy
If our country didn't pioneer medical research with our "for profit medical" The rest of you would die from lack of modern medication too!
    • Archie Bunker
Profit is what move innovation. How can we do something better and cheaper? That's human nature, and it's not going to change because of government intrusion. I think that's what most people are failing to understand.
  • Bad idea all the way around. He should be relegated to indigent care like everyone else.
    • Archie Bunker
He made his bed, he should be made to lay in it.
  • Rewarding criminals is insane. Not one yen should be spent on such an evil man. It is appalling to think such incidents as this actually occur.
    • Archie Bunker
      Appalling, but unfortunately, not surprising.
  • Hmm. Maybe the cost of more range time for the officers involved added to the cost of the guy's funeral would have been cheaper.
