  • How recent is the study? Since Nutt's Addiction Scale was introduced in 2007, there have been many fruitful discussions regarding what is meant by any scale measuring "addiction." Some define addiction as merely physical dependence, but other factor in the physical harm a substance does. For example, the argument that water is more addictive than alcohol, because the human body has a stronger physical dependence on water, fails the common sense check. Others argue that addiction is defined by a chemical dependence developed by exposure to the substance. But Nutt's research more recently resulted in a chart that plots substances on a 2-axis graph of chemical dependence and harm (as in the first argument's case), and only two substances were determined to be more dependency-generating AND more harmful than nicotine: cocaine and heroine.

This is an old question. Probably over a year old. In fact I've already posted the answer (scroll up), but people keep answering. Except you. He he. You said a lot, but didn't answer the question.

The last three words summarize my answer. The old AB used to post the date of the question. The new AB not only just says something vague, like "some time ago," but also sometimes puts old questions up on the home page. I wish they'd bring back some of the old features, but this is much better than no AB at all.
