  • 12-21-2016 The Brussels sprout is a member of the Gemmifera Group of cabbages (Brassica oleracea), grown for its edible buds. Although native to the Mediterranean region with other cabbage species, Brussels sprouts first appeared in northern Europe during the fifth century, later being cultivated in the thirteenth century near Brussels from which they derived their name. A commonly used alternate term is brussel sprout. wikipedia.org

      "Prout" is not a word.
  • "Brussels Sprouts" is the correct plural term.
    • Murgatroyd
It was printed in the puzzle as "BRUSSELSPROUTS", Ice man. That cannot say "Brussels Sprouts" for the plain and simple reason that it is short of an S. Why do you think that is, Ice man? Why did they print it like that in the puzzle?
    • Ice man
Why? Possibly the author of the puzzle is a "texter", they are famous for omitting letters to suit themselves. Otherwise - who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men ? The Shadow knows! : )
  • sprouts
  • "BRUSSELSPROUTS" apparently wasn't meant to be a term. More than likely, it was just a combination of letters that coincidentally ended up being arranged in that order. It's not uncommon in such puzzles - you've seen other "near" words that were only one letter away from being actual words.
