There is no risk to the knees with proper warm ups. Running sideways also helps strengthen the hip and groin muscles. If a person overuses a tendon during certain activities such as dancing, cycling or running, the tendon stretches like a worn-out rubber band and becomes inflamed. With care, good stretches and warm ups the knees will not be injured by sideways running.
