  • I say it all the time, but then i am not religious! i suppose others would look at it as blasphemous!
  • One of the Ten Commandments says, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" (or words to that effect). So a Christian using that expression out of context would be breaking that commandment.
  • It is not the word, but the attitude behind it that is the important thing. If you say "Oh my God" in reverence, that is one matter, but if you use the Lord's name as just another expletive, you are breaking the 3rd commandment.
  • Oh my God what, is what I wonder? Oh my God is not a complete sentence. I don't get why people have such incomplete expresions, and so often.
  • No, it's merely an exclamatiion of surprise or dismay, nothing more.
  • If your god does not mind why should I?
  • It's disrespectful - especially if you dont even know or have a relationship with your god. Its not a nice thing to do, to use a word that is held as precious and dear to others as an exclamation. Its just plain selfish, inconsiderate and rude...
  • For many people who believe in God, saying "oh my god" in a casual way is blasphemous because it is a disrespectful use of his name: it's "taking his name in vain," which means using it without any substance or meaning. For these people, it doesn't matter whether you believe in God or not, because either way you are using his name in this way. So, for someone who doesn't believe in God (you), what's wrong with saying "oh my God" is that you run the risk of upsetting people. When and where you choose to run that risk, or in cases when you decide there is no risk, is up to you.
  • You are being too possessive ;)
  • I don't see anything wrong with it. Now using the Lords name in vain, "God ---- --" is wrong and I cringe when I hear it.
  • nothing unless you go to church and you concider it using gods name in vain!!! I say "good god" and "good lord" all the time!!! Whatever... if you dont like it then poo on you!!!
  • In addition to the religious issues, it is affected in a Valley Girl sense. Not everything is that amazing.
  • nothing........lets say it together O-M-G!
  • It's taking the Lord's name in vain.
  • Nothing. Video.
  • because your takeing the persons name that made you in vain, if you dont have jesus then fine burn in hell.
  • Nothing. It's like saying 'oh, shit!' Only thing is that shit actually exists
  • OMG! nothing!
  • Some say it's taking the Lord's name in vain but my Father who was a Reverend Deacon said, " There is nothing wrong with calling on your Maker". I have stuck by this Philosophy, although I rarely say the words :o)
  • It is miss using the name of God. Don` t say ... Jesus Christ Christ Oh God etc Because it is a commandment " Thou shall not misuses the name of God" And if you say you ' don` t believe in God ' then most of you wont have looked it up, i didnt untill 3 months ago, and it was the best decision of my LIFE! I can show you the way as well, give you alot of evidence, if you wish me to show you the way add me on msn alex.mitchell@live.co.uk God Bless
  • At one time blasphemy of this type could see you burnt at the stake. Hence sayings like Gawd Blimey (God Blind Me) which got around it.
  • Nothing at all. It's just words.
  • People take it way to seriously. I used to say oh my god a lot and my friends mom always said EXCUSE ME?!? And I'm like...what? I saw her a couple weeks ago, and I'm like oh my god. She didn't say a thing.
  • Depends on the way u use the phrase. U could use the phrase in an uplifting worship. U could use the phrase in a personal prayer, or u could just be blasphemous with it. Its just so common of a phrase its found itself walking a fine line between just words, and using the Lords name in vain. Then in those circumstances it is a sin. A direct violation of 1 of the 10 Commandments.
  • Absolutely nothing, but I still try to say "Oh my goodness" instead of "Oh my God" when I am around Christians because I don't see any reason to upset them.
  • The religious say it is taking the Lord's name in vain.
  • OMG he/she spelled out "oh my god"! You cannot do that on the Internet; u hv 2 abbr OMG
