  • I don't recall Jesus saying that. But, it depends on your beliefs. I personally think it makes sense.
  • No I don't, however seeing as I am not Christian I am bias.
  • I don't need Jesus to tell me anything about morality, I work it all out for myself. But yes, if you are committed to one woman, you must stamp on those first little beginnings of lust for any other. You may not be able to stop them flickering, but stamp them down, look away, move away. If you allow and welcome them, you have already betrayed her trust. Its not difficult to see. Wouldn't you want her to do that for you ?
  • Jesus said it. That is good enough for me. *********** Ridiculous wrote, "If Jesus jumped off a bridge would you do that too?" Ridiculous, you are living up to your UID. *********** The Pornographic Trotskyloons wrote, "He IS a Mormon. What is Jesus's word on the moustache, I wonder?" Seeing as Jesus probably didn't shave at all, I doubt that He would have anything agains my having a mustache. Finally, let me just add this for all of those that have commented on this answer so far. This question was asked in the section on Christian beliefs. So, what is wrong with a faith based answer to a question regarding faith? There is nothing in this answer that is a criticism of you or is intended to be disrespectful of your choice to live as you wish. Yet you seem to feel a need to ridicule me for my faith. So, what does this say about you?
  • It is BS, being attracted to other humans is an animal instinct that we are born with. How can it be sinful or immoral to be attracted sexually to some one, it is the most natural thing in the world. Now, acting on it depends on your personal situation.
  • This is why I'm not a Theist. I shall look at women lustfully as much as I want, and they should be allowed to do the same without receiving FGM.
  • yes. If Jesus tells me something, I'll believe it. But I don't think I'll have that much of a problem w/ that sin....
  • hmmm ... Jesus was wise. but i think each relationship needs to figure those things out for themselves. i'm sure he just wanted to discourage men from acting on their lustful thoughts by saying even those were sinful ... sorry if that's a bad interpretion of His motives. All I know is I've studies Psychology, and know what sexual repression can do to people, so I think as long as its not damaging to anyone externally or the person themself, then it's normal and healthy.
  • It is completely a normal feeling for man to look at women lustfully, it happens all the time. Being promiscuous in a vicarious manner, is being healthy and well adjusted for men and women. Since this is obviously true, what Jesus supposedly said does not make sense.
  • This verse is directed towards men because they lust with their eyes. It is a warning for men to guard themselves from lusting after women because it so easily leads to actually committing sexual sin. He also told us to flee from temptation.
  • I'm having to post a comment here, I don't know if there are too many comments are what to MISS-HEIDI's answer, but it just continues saying 'processing...' To Penny42 aka AKGoTE: Who first mentioned movies about sex? Not I. "What happens if you watch a movie with a sex scene?" Cut and pasted from your comment which was prior to mine. I was not the one who got off topic, I was responding to your comment, only. I do not watch those type of movies/TV shows because I do believe that it is the beginning of that slippery slope into sin, not because that by watching them I am guilt of sleeping around. Sorry that we both seem to be typing in English, but are unable to read/interpret what we are trying to convey. I do not find it surprising either that you find it to be a cop-out when I am relying on my faith. I've noticed that all without faith find this to be a cop-out. Wish I could explain how it is not cop-out. I am very grateful and thankful to God and Jesus Christ for being able to rely on Him and His Holy Word, the Bible. <:))))<><
  • YES! That means woman also. Read Proverbs.
  • yes, clean of mind and body . lust is not clean...
  • I actually do.
  • Yes according to the definion that would be true, thats one good reason why I pay no attention to it,hell I must sin like 4000 times per day.
  • So Jesus is saying that because of hormones that I have no control over, and the fact that I would find a woman attractive enough to want to sleep with, I'm a sinner? Whatevs, I can live with that. I like Jesus and everything, but really... was he born without testicles or something? Like HE never thought a woman was hot. Especially when she's like, washing his feet with her hair, and all that.
  • On the flip side, if you think good and pure thoughts, (as in helping someone in need) without following through....have you already 'done the deed'? And, based on my beliefs (which are a product of my upbringing), I find some truth to your statement.
  • yes, the phrase "cleanliness is next to Godliness" means body and mind...all the problems with boys and(especially married) men getting hung up on PORN today has created great problems with morals and families...they cannot tell the differences in LOVE or LUST.....same for women too... women do not like men looking at porn anymore than men would like women lokking at this trash( married especially)
  • Yes - I believe each and everything he has said.
  • Jesus said that because he was jealous because no one would be his girlfriend
  • I don't believe in sin, so that is a bit of a problem. On the ethics of it, that depends. Is the man married? Is the woman married? If she is married, is he aware of it? To what degree is he looking at her "lustfully"? Is he just thinking she's attractive/hot/sexy, or is he having full-blown fantasies? Did he seek her out for that purpose (porn, peeping Tom), or did he merely see her by chance and the thought popped briefly into his head? I don't think you can make a blanket statement about this, but I do think that Jesus had a fair point under certain circumstances.
  • He was so uptight that young man...
  • I think that depends on the circumstances. If you are both single, then I wouldn't call it adultery. I think it is part of natural attraction. If the object of the attention is married, then I think there may be a problem. I think many Christians in my experience misapply the term adultery to cover singles. Marriage of one or more of the people involved is a more acceptable context for this statement by Jesus. So it depends to me on the situation involved.
  • Absolutely.
  • no, it should say "if you are married and you look at a woman lustfully, you have already comitted the sin of adultery"
  • If it is or it isn't, I don't care. God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, it's all bologne to me.
  • Jesus speaking: Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath commited adultery with her already in his heart.
  • PPPPPPBBBBBBTTT! No, I don't believe it.
  • So looking is the same as doing? So, in theory, one could get genital herpes from just lookin? Fuck that.
  • I believe so, yes. Think of it this way, am I being fair to my wife by looking at another woman that way? No. Would most women want their husbands doing that? No.
  • Looking at a woman lustfully is not just thinking "wow. she's pretty." It means imagining the act of sex with her. THerefore it IS adultery for a married man (or woman) to think about sleeping with another person. You have betrayed your partner. For an unmarried person, it is not adultery, but it is still cerebral sex.
  • In my opinion, yes. The key word is lustfully. I don't see a problem with a man or woman admiring Gods creations, but to look upon another lustfully is a sin.
  • I blieve Jesus meant what he said if you look at a woman with lust you allow wickedness in to your heart and mind. All most everyone of the violent crimes against other people first started out with a lustfull thoughts and was manifested into the physical act that started from an inpure thoughts. If you keep your thoughts pure and heart clean, you will not give a place for the devil to use you for his own gain and your loss.
  • There must be a real reason for such teaching-
  • Yes I do. The extreme popularity of the pornography industry is proof of what Jesus was saying. Of course it covers much more than just pornography.
  • Jesus said it didn't he? Therfor, I should belive it. If it were not true, he would not have told us so.
  • No, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
  • Actually, the disciple, Matthew said it. And he didn't say you had committed the sin of adultery, he said you had committed it "in your heart". Jesus said, of the adulterous woman "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
  • Not to make light of it but seems people commit every sin in the book without even trying. Perhaps that's why he chose the most horrible way to die. Crucifixion.
  • Yes. But, what is "lustfully"? Can a man admire how a woman looks without committing a sin?
  • I don't believe in anything he allegedly said; I'm not even certain he existed...
  • yes. the lust of the mind is a sin no matter how you look at it and lusting for another is in fact adultery.
  • Sin and guilt are created by humans to control people's lives. Man will look at woman and there may be some lust involved. That is how they were made. It is natural.
  • Over 50 years I have committed adultery a "Oh Forget it" He created woman What the hell did he expect us to do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmExAiCcaPk
  • Ah well, if we've already committed the sin just by looking we might as well go all the way.
  • see what Jesus's own people do today................ *Evangelist Tony Alamo was sentenced Friday to 175 years in prison for taking little girls as young as 9 across state lines to have sex with them. The decision punishes him for the rest of his life for molesting children he took as "brides" in his ministry. *Alamo, 75, had denied the charges, claiming they came from a Vatican-led conspiracy against the church he led, called the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries. *Alamo used his status as father figure and pastor and threatened and threatened the girls with "the loss of their salvation." *A woman Alamo took as a child "bride" at age 8 challenged the evangelist from the witness stand Friday to submit himself to God's judgment. Reading from lined notebook paper, she said Alamo tore her family apart by taking her as a child bride and described how she shook uncontrollably when he first molested her. *"You have the audacity to ask for mercy. What mercy did you show us?" she said. Read Full Report Here http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2009/11/175year_sentence_for_evangelis.html
  • Yeah, but he forgave me for my sin,s and I miss her with out!
  • It isn't the "looking" Jesus was speaking of but the coveting of a woman. If it were not for lust, given to us by the Lord God, we would probably never date or marry. Would you desire to date a woman if you didn't have some lust for her? I don't think so. This has been a hotly debated subject for many years. It must be put into the context of the time written and not in today's understanding. The book, "Devine Sex" by Darwin Chandler available at Amazon books. A really good book and fully explains the joys of sex from a Biblical point of view. Yes, the Lord God loves sex but satin hates it!
  • Yes. Which is why we need salvation through Jesus. Because we can't do it by ourselves.
