  • Yes, depending on how long you leave the tea bags in, the stronger the caffeine will be. I use two tea bags per 10oz cup and I let them steep for about 30 minutes. It gives me the same amount of caffeine as a cup of black coffee. A cup of green tea usually has half the caffeine of a cup of coffee, if steeped for about five minutes.
  • Thanks for the answer. This is the original poster again. My Celestial Seasonings green tea says it has 30 mg caffeine per cup. Do you have any idea how many mg of caffeine there would be in a strong pot of the tea, made with two tea bags?
  • No. The majority of the caffeine is actually released in the first few seconds of steeping, so steeping for a longer time does not add an appreciable amount. Longer steeping makes the tea taste stronger. This is how decaffeinated tea works. Steep the tea bag briefly (2-3 seconds), then dump that water and put the bag into a fresh cup of boiling water. Most of the caffeine will be gone, but the tea taste will remain.
