  • Why would it show up positive? That doesn't even make any sense. Pregnancy testing looks for levels of a hormone secreted by the placenta called beta human chorionic gonadotropin, or beta HCG. This hormone is unrelated to the estrogen or progestin in oral contraceptives. The beta HCG is secreted into the blood and then excreted into the urine. The home pregnancy tests detect beta HCG in the urine. http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSCHN000/3460/7997/373101.html
  • I have always wondered this myself, but I guess I never really thought about what the home tests were actually testing. Thanks for the insight!
  • You can take a pregnancy test while on birth control pills. I actually had to do that once. I was on the pill, but completely missed my period and freaked out. I used a pregnancy test and it came out negative. WHEW!!
  • If a pregnancy test is taken during the off week (period week) of the pill cycle: Positive results mean youre pregnant; you will NOT get a false positive. Negative results MAY be falsely negative (and you could really be pregnant) IF the test is taken too soon to the beginning of the off week while the pill is still in your system.
