Bio-Oil aims to heal skin conditions like acne, stretch marks, uneven skin tone and the appearance of scars. It contains PurCellin Oil, which is also helpful in treating aging and dehydrated skin.
Ingredients
Bio-Oil comprises ingredients like mineral oil--which is found in products like baby oil and makeup remover--natural oils such as lavender and rosemary, and chemicals like benzyl-salicylate.
Side Effects
Mineral oil may clog pores, which can further dehydrate skin. Derived from petroleum, mineral oil is used in the majority of cosmetics. When used with other products that contain pore-clogging ingredients, mineral oil may trap these pore-clogging ingredients into your skin. Therefore, mineral oil should not be used with leave-in products.
Allergies
You may also be allergic to one of the ingredients in Bio-Oil. Read all labels carefully before beginning a new skin-care regimen.
Availability
Bio-Oil is available at independent pharmacies, Walmart and Walgreens.
Effectiveness in Clinical Trials
In clinical trials using Bio-Oil, after one month: 65 percent of participants showed improvement in scar appearance, 50 percent showed improvement in stretch mark appearance, and 93 percent showed improvement in uneven skin tone.
