This is not a simple "yes" or "no" question. Benefits to minor children are usually not taxed, unless the child exceeds the income levels set by the IRS. Adult benefits usually are not taxed if Social Security payments are the only source of income. If there is additional income, or if you are married, then survivor benefits may be taxable depending on your income and filing status.
