For several reasons, it is not good to tan naturally or in a tanning bed when you are pregnant. Skin is more susceptible to sunburn while pregnant, according to the March of Dimes. In addition, overheating your body is bad for a growing baby. Furthermore, UV rays may break down folic acid, which is beneficial for your baby's brain and spinal cord development.

On the Other: Tan From a Bottle

The best option for getting a tan while you are pregnant is through tanning lotions. However, because of the active ingredient, DHA, wait until after the first trimester, just to be on the safe side, before using tanning lotions.

    Bottom Line

While you may look good with a tan, when you are pregnant, the health of the baby should take priority over your vanity.
