The majority play because its their job..no participation..no money..also..they will recieve good treatment (such as physiotherapy) on a regular basis and will recover from injury much sooner due to their fitness level :D

Top sports players earn money from advertising deals which require them to be present whether they are injured or not. Usually the injuries are minor enough to be able to provide a minimal performance for the fans.

Some people play for the money or the love of the sport. But there's more than that. I know some that will do it because they want act all big and tough and unstoppable, even though they aren't. But personally, there's also the emotional atmosphere of every game. Every heart-stopping moment, the total bliss when you hear them cheering for you and the abject terror you feel at the thought of defeat. They want to soak all of it up, every last bit of it.
