Really good qustion ! and I would say yes they are alive. Whatever the answer, does it apply to human seed ?

seeds are the human fetus of plant world

seeds are alive but respire inactively so when they are put in water they swells and begin to respire activly and burst to give the radical and pulmule then put in the soil to grow and have complete nutrition;D
