  • Yes, it is impossible for some people to find and believe the truth. I wish I understood why.
  • Most people are looking for something that reinforces what they already believe to be true, regardless if there are any facts to support it or how irrational the information is. It also helps them when it comes from someone of authority since they believe someone in a position of power is more likely to be an expert and telling the truth. The problem is that education is not focused on helping our kids enough to critically think for themselves. Even worse, we allow home schooling and unprepared credentialed private schools that do a far worse job, which is why the US is falling further and further behind the rest of the industrialized world in education.
  • Because it is much easier to be told what to think. That's one of the marvels to belonging to a political party; people don't have to research and come to their own conclusions... all they have to do is reference the chart of things they are required to believe in as a member.
  • You know, I wish I had an answer for that. It confounds me as well. I think people believe what they want to believe because they are getting something out of it (security, less anxiety, acceptance by their social circle, etc.) and then in turn, figure out a way to justify their beliefs.
