  • It's possible you need to replace the thermostat.
  • I'd say the sending unit is bad, if it goes up as soon as you start the car, and not after the engine has had time to warm up. This is just a sensor that screws into the cooling system somewhere (usually near or on the thermostat housing) to sense the temperature and send it to the gauge. If it were going up after the engine had been running five to ten minutes, I'd say thermostat. But since its doing it immediately, my guess is its misreading.
