  • No. Contaminated wheat gluten was a huge problem leading to all the recalls a couple of years ago, but shouldn't be a problem now. There are no good and bad ingredients. It is all a bunch of hype used to promote premium brands. As safe, healthy dog food can be formulated from a wide variety of ingredients. Many of the foods that score poorly on internet rating systems have very successful histories in large, professionally managed programs.
  • I'm sure if it is healthy, but the gluten free on labels is not for health reasons like what you are thinking. A lot of people have wheat allergies or diseases such as Celiac's or Chrome's (sp)and get sick if they eat wheat. Companies label their products for people with allergies, not to promote it's beneficial health effects.
  • In truth, dogs are physically designed with the same digestive system as a Wolf. They are designed to eat and digest Meats, bones and organs....all RAW. Wheat Gluten, just like corn is a Grain. Dogs are not designed to digest Grains, veggies or fruits. This is the reason that a Raw Fed dog produces a lot less poop than one fed any typical commercial dry (death nuggets) or canned food. I'm talking a LOT LESS POOP...because so much more of the food (RAW = Species Appropriate diet) is literally digested and USED correctly by the body of the Dog, Cat, Ferret, Wolf, Coyote, Cougar, Lion, Tiger or Fox. Wheat Gluten is not good for dogs. It will not add to their good health, it will not boost their immune systems, make them shed less, or regulate their weight in a healthy manner, or help save you money at the Vet, (dental work is very expensive for dogs!) It will not help them to live a longer life, and often does shorten the life our dogs and cats would have had, if they had been eating what they were designed to eat. It won't kill them, but it has no place in their diet, it is nothing more than "filler." Sawdust would provide about the same value. • Wheat gluten is bad for dogs because they can't digest it. It's not nutritionally good for them. And it can cause most allergies in dogs. The best diet for dogs, one that they were designed for is to eat biologically appropriate foods like raw meaty bones. Most dog foods contain grains and vegetable matter, things dogs can't digest well. http://leerburg.com/feedingarawdiet.htm http://www.barfworld.com/html/barf_diet/barfdiet_specific.shtml http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/
  • Dogs or cats, carnivores, should;n't eat gluten, or grains, vegetables, fruits. It's a scam to make you think dog food is healthy. When they show a human healthy diet for dogs they are trying to get you to buy their dog food but it's not good for dogs. It's cheap filler. Dogs need meat and bones like wolves.
