Could be ebony or African blackwood, more commonly known as Mpingo.

Ebony, ipe, mahoghany and aged cherry are all all really dark woods, some harder than others. Cherry and mahoghany are at the softer end of the range, but still considered hardwoods. Ipe is so hard that it is usually glued instead of nailed or screwed.

A Diospyros in the Philippines is the best version of ebony. It has more black stripes that other ebonies. Its also so hard its called ironwood.
