  • You must be 50 years old to get a full membership card. Your spouse does not have to pay to become a member. Please click their website for lots more information→ http://www.aarp.org/
  • If you want to feel old wait until the day your 50th birthday rolls around and you get a letter from AARP asking you to join. All of my friends in that age category were mindblown that AARP knows when your birthday is and that they consider you old at 50! It doesnt help your ego! "One of the main advantages of an AARP membership is that you can join at age 50, whereas most senior discounts we found started at 55 or older. AARP memberships also offer other perks. For example, if you're married, your spouse will automatically get a free membership. Sep 3, 2015"
  • Just sit back and wait - when you start getting close, they'll come looking for you. I stay away from AARP. Subscribing to an organization that will sell my name to everyone and his brother so that my mailbox fills with junk mail and my email is inundated with spam doesn't seem to be a wise investment to me. The only benefit I see is a discount on purchases here and there. I already get that - a 10% senior discount after age 55.

For the most part, those 10% discounts also apply to AAA and other affinity groups and sometimes just for asking nicely.

I heard they have good travel benefits. They didn't wait till 50 even to contact me. I was still in my 30's when I started getting mail from them.
