For white blouses I would use warm water but for t-shirts, undies,washcloths I would use Hot water for disinfectant reasons & to whiten (gets rid of dirt better)along with a little bleach of course!

White clothing shows dirt more, and doesn't bleed. hot cleans much better. It's more like why don't you wash colors in hot water, because they bleed.

The actions of laundry chemicals,detergent and bleach are generally stronger in hot water than cold water. If whites are not totally clean it will show more than in colored loads.

1-6-2017 To get it clean. Hot water dissolves oils better than cold water. Since many dyes are oil based, you wash colored fabrics at lower temperatures.
