  • An atheist believes that there is no God. An agnostic does not feign to believe anything at all, other than the idea that we probably will never know if there is a God or not until we die. As an agnostic I believe it is possible that God exists, but I also believe it is possible that God was created by man. Edit: Please read the very interesting discussion below. :)
  • An atheist believes that there is no god. He is sure that the whole idea of god is something we have created for different reasons. They believe that man created god. An agnostic thinks that maybe there is a god, but maybe there is no god. He can't prove it, so he stays undecided.
  • Agnostism can be split into two (main) forms: i) Those who are unsure as to whether God, Gods, supernatural powers, etc exist or not. ii) Those who say that we will never know if there is the above mentioned or not as it can't be tested. Atheism has one main form: i) Those who don't believe in God/supernatural powers However, as atheists are united by not beliveing in somebody there is a wide range of opinions and view points. Being atheist does not automatically make you pro-evolution, anti-religion or anything like that. Most people understand agnostism, however, many do not fully understand atheism. Atheism is not about saying there definatly is no God, it's about saying it's very unlikely that one exists. It would just be arrogant to say there definatly is no God, it's about weighing up the evidence and finding a balance of probability.
  • An atheist doen't belive that there is a god. An agnostic beleives that there is a possibilty for there to be a god, but also beleives that there's a chance there is not.
  • An atheist doesn't believe in God or a supernatural power. An agnostic doesn't know what he/she believes. Agnostics don't spend a lot of time thinking about God one way or the other.
  • To be as comprehensive as I can: the prefix "a" means "without" and "theism" means "belief in god(s)." There is a distinction between "believing there are not any gods" and "not believing in gods." The former is a positive statment (ie, an assertion) wheres the latter is a negative statement (ie, absence of assertion). For example, infants are atheists in that they hold no beliefs about gods. Some would shudder at such a thought, but to interpret it like this is solely based upon the assumption that atheism is inherently wrong. That is neither here nor there. That burden rests upon those who condemn. It is also a common error to claim that atheists say that the non-existence of gods can be proven. This is simply not the case. Agnosticism's claim is that the existence of gods is beyond the scope of human knowledge; knowing that gods exist or don't exist is impossible. Therefore, the agnostic claims to suspend judgement on the matter and asserts no claim either way. Agnosticism has been popular for years, probably for obvious reasons. However, its flaw lies in that because the agnostic does not hold a belief in gods, he must be an athiest. If he did, then he would be a thiest. Agnostics commonly claim their position in order to avoid the stigma of being called "atheists."
  • They aren't mutually exclusive. An agnostic is one category of atheist, like 'persian' is one category of cat. I am both, for instance (an atheist, specifically an agnostic - not a persian cat. ;-) The prefix "a-" means without, or not. A theist is someone with a belief in a god or gods. Therefore, the word atheist means nothing more than "someone who does not have a belief in a god or gods." It doesn't mean they're sure; it doesn't mean they hate theists; it doesn't mean they eat babies. It just means they don't happen to hold that belief. Many agnostics choose to use that word to separate themselves from the unfortunate social stigma of the word "atheist." But many of us own the term for what it is and don't give a crap about the social stigma.
  • To summarize: Athiests believe in the absense of dietys. "There is no god." Agnostics believe they can nither prove nor disprove. "I don't know."
  • Agnosticism in the philosophical and religious senses implies the limitation of human knowledge and correspondingly an inability to know phenomena other than what appears to the senses. Atheism, is a system of thought or action which denies the existence of God. The early christians were called atheists by those commonly known as pagans who are neither Christian, Muslim, or Jewish.
  • Go ask Kirk Cameron at wayofthemaster.com. Of course, you shouldn't believe anything those crazy people say, but at least they can discern between atheism and agnosticism.
  • Simply, atheists dont belive in gods and agnostics are unsure.
  • Atheists are those who are generally against the concepts of faith, belief and hope. Majority of them do not accept their minor implications in social transactions, even if they are not connected with religion. Theists are those who accept most implications of those three concepts. Agnostics are indecisive either to adopt theism or atheism. They are often called the 'noncommittal'. Definition: (n.) one who does not definitively deny or confirm the existence of God. a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something <political agnostics> Synonyms: skeptic, uncertain, indecisive, For example: "When it comes to computer operating systems, I am technologically agnostic. I like both Windows and Mac/OS." Kelly is agnostic about life on other planets. Because he was agnostic, he thought the convictions of both his religious and his atheist friends were misplaced. http://vocabulary-vocabulary.com/dictionary/agnostic.php
  • An atheist doesn't believe in a god or gods. An agnostic believes there is a god, but doesn't follow a religion.
  • Here is my stand on it ... I Belief in a god .. And i feel his work can be found in the universe in science .. I feel like human made beliefs ( religion ) is all wrong .. Cuz they speak in absolutes ... There is no true absolutes in anything ... I belief religions are made to control people and confort at the same time ... But also at the same time force fear on people for damnation , isnt love suppost to be cuz ya wanna love somebody not cuz your forced ??? Religion has tooken people for hostage , and it has caused wars , and in my eyes it has been all in vein , and most of the time they are started by inmoral , greedy , vile people who claim religions ... but there are some good values and morals and wisdom in religion .. but thats the only kind thing i can say for it ....I love the journey IN searching for the truth .. In being one with the earth , sun , moon , and stars ... God to me is to great to be put into a book .. Let alone one written by man ... Athiesym is just as small minded and arrogant as religions ... So agnostic is what i claim .. even though i do belief in god .. But i also accept the possibility of being wrong .. On the othere hand for all i know maybe one of the man made relgions is right and im wrong .. but i dont think so ... And i feel closer to a god without a middle man like jesus , or Mohammad or preacher or munk , or whatever ... I feel there is no need for fear of damnation as long as i value the truth and do the best i can to be humble ..
  • They are really the same because they both indulge in and are happy with being willfully ignorant to the overwhelming evidence of God's existence. There have been times when I was actually jealous of these two groups because in the short term their ideology frees them from the responsibilty that comes wih the knowledge of God and his teachings. As the saying goes "ignorance is bliss" These two groups of people want to enjoy the music, laughter, and the dancing of the party (life) yet, they don't want to give even the slightest acknowledgement or recognition to the Host. If they proclaim they do not believe in all powerful, all knowing God, who will one day judge them on how they lived their lives while here on earth, then they can justify continuing to live selfishly, getting high on the pride of life and boasting about how secular progressive and what wonderful "free thinkers" they are. I'll end with this. If there is but one verse they should really take heed to and consider it is Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the Lord, IS the beginning of true wisdom and the knowledge of the holy IS understanding" The reason you don't SEE God is because you don't SEEK God. Seek and ye shall find, my friends.
  • An atheist only holds an opinion and is thus not really a logical position. An agnostic has not yet decided.
  • An atheist says there is NO God...an agnostic is not sure.

A further point on my own answer... The question HAS to be answered,.,,our origins... Just where did we originate? The Bible clearly answers this...Genesis 1 : 26. Neither atheists nor agnostics have an answer. But it must be answered...
