I imagine stagecoach-like services are as ancient as horse carts. Same with ship transport. Such things were obviously pretty mature by the 19th century, as steam dummy railroads and horse-drawn streetcars were commonplace in major cities. Electric streetcars came later, I believe 1888. Rapid transit service with electric trains/subways probably barely predates 1900.
