yes..for their betterment for the future!

If humans where immortal, this would be one crowded planet.
-
even if we were immortal they would still rape our freedom.
-
This question would be more valid if people actually served natural life. In Canada convicted murderers can start applying for parole after 10 years of a life sentence. Plus, those immortals who committed murder would actually be committing a more serious crime because they would be taking more future from the people they killed. I would think that in the end it would be less likely that there would be as many life without parole sentences and more of a return to the death penalty.

It would depend upon how immortality changed society. Life sentences aren't about the duration, they're about not being able to trust people in society. If people prove their inability to be trusted, then they need to be put somewhere where they can't hurt society anymore. The question is whether society would become more forgiving/trusting after becoming immortal. Until society forgives or begins to trust again, some people would need to stay in prison. At present, society would keep some people in prison forever.
-
no, what society could afford to continue to house and support the inmates forever? it would be impossible.
-
i think so. even if we cant die, they could still harm us in other ways and need to be confined for public safety.
-
Yes, even better, then murderers and other evil people can suffer in confinement FOREVER! Lol.
-
Yes because they would still need to protect the innocent.
-
i think the world would work differently if humans were immortal. nobody would die, so we couldn't have murderers...and since people live forever, you'd think twice about doing something mean, because you would run into that person again. life in prison would be hard to sustain too - it would be something like hell for the person imprisoned, and a pain in the ass for everyone who pays taxes.
-
Yes! because a life sentence would then be eternity!
-
Immortality comes with perfection in every ways including your conduct and livelihood. So if you're immortal, you're also not capable of committing crimes so there is no need for prisons. The idea of hell, evil, chaos and imprisonment is not defined in the reality of the immortals let alone their existence because such world is "perfect" also.
-
I think once this world is over we will see the answer to this question. I think the Lord will sentnce people to the eternal abyss!
-
Well.. if humans were immortal then we would not have murderers.... ( I do not think you can get a life in prison for anything else but murder.)
-
a lot of Life sentences are given to murderers,so if we're Immortal there would be no murderers, hmmm.
-
do you mean as opposed to sentence to death? if so, then no... i think for survival reasons, they'd just kill them
-
Prison is not only a punishment but the removal of a problem from society. Certainly a serial rapist or child molesterer should be removed from prison and be sentenced to life even if he was immortal.
-
That would suck, being stuck in prison untill the end of time. But no I don't think so. Just for a really long time, for them to think about their actions, or something.
