  • This is a "fad" diet, with virtually no medical documentation. Pros would include, obviously, the possibility of weight loss (in my opinion mostly due to the caloric reduction as part of the diet, rather than so much the lemonade itself). Being also that the lemon is a fruit, natural lemonade may have a number of health benefits not yet documented. Cons would include a lack of sustainability (how long could you REALLY go on drinking lemonade?), and possibly medical complications due to the acidity of lemon juice, (probably nowhere NEAR the danger associated with consumption of the same volume of pop/soda).
  • The Master Cleanser Diet, or as popularly known; The Lemonade Diet was created by the late naturopath Stanley Burroughs. The Diet consists of fasting to rid the body of toxins, created by improper diet, lack of exercise and negative mental attitudes. The purpose of the Lemonade Diet is to dissolve and eliminate toxins and congestion; to cleanse the kidneys and digestive system; to purify glands; to eliminate waste and hardened materials in the joints and muscles; to build a healthy bloodstream; to maintain optimal blood pressure; and to what you all are waiting to hear... to lose weight. As a reducing diet it is superior in every way, reducing fat at a rate of about two (2) pounds a day for most persons, without harmful side effects. http://www.humblebeehealth.com/en-us/dept_1.html The popularity of the Lemonade Diet is growing, especially now that we have celebrities raving about Mr. Borrough's diet. Have you seen Robin Quivers? she was featured in People's Magazine (April 5th issue, read about it!) she looks absolutely gorgeous after losing 70 pounds following the Lemonade Diet on 3 occasions. Quoting from the article, Ms. Quivers says the regimen is responsible for erasing the joint pain and fatigue that had plagued her more than a decade. In conclusion the Lemonade Diet is a reducing diet, with the added benefits that other ailments are also corrected in the process. [Added 19 Novemeber 2004] The Master Cleanser diet/fast otherwise known as the Lemonade Diet is a detoxifying cleanse that has been around for over 60 years. The diet recently made famous by Robin Quivers, was originally developed by Stanley Burroughs in 1941, and was first used to treat ulcers. Later it was discovered to be a successful treatment of many other diseases and a contributor to maintaining good health. It's the easiest way to regain your vitality, and to give a rest to your digestive organs allowing your body to repair and clean out. Disease stems from a build up of toxins and poisons in our bodies, which is why with our modern diets, environments, and lifestyles we need to make cleansing a necessary part of our lives. Cleansing is basic for the elimination of any kind of disease. This liquid diet helps achieve effective cleansing of your bowel, kidneys, liver, and your entire body. Some people worry about hunger and cravings when they think of fasts. That may be common with other cleanses, but not this one. Hunger dissipates as soon as you have another glass of the juice and cravings just aren't a big deal. This fast curbs many cravings and is even heavily used to help those that suffer from alcoholism to help themselves "dry out" and it serves as a great tool to kick the habit of smoking. On the Master Cleanser it is even very common to experience greater energy than normal. Many feel better on the fast than they do eating food. You may feel uncomfortable for the first three days as the toxins start their process of breaking free, but as they start to wash away you'll feel like you have a newer body. If you do feel ill in the beginning, remember that it is probably the moving of toxins, not the cleanse that are to blame. The Master Cleanser... Is a liquid only diet that dissolves and eliminates toxins and congestion that have built up and been stored throughout areas of the body. Frees up energy within the body (since the body normally uses 35% or more of its energy to digest food, which can now be used to release toxins and rejuvenate the body.) Cleanses the kidneys and the digestive system Purifies the glands and cells throughout the entire body. Eliminates unusable waste and hardened material in the joints and muscles Builds a healthy blood stream and helps clear the mind Relieves pressure and irritation in the nerves, arteries, and blood vessels Helps the body better assimilate nutrients, build body tissue, fight off disease, and control weight. Helps treat a large amount of ailments from joint and muscle pain to headaches, ulcers, skin ailments and much more. this is what a kit contains : Kit Contains; Master Cleanser Book (optional) Top Ten Master Cleanser Tips and Calander (1) Half-gallon of "Grade B" pure maple syrup (formaldehyde free) (1) 32-oz Nalgene water bottle, (won't release chemicals like cheap plastic.) • one con is that due to the amounts of vitamin C in the lemonade is that too much vitamin C can cuase diarrhea or even bladder stones
  • "Any diet plan that claims lemon, vinegar, grapefruit or any other substance will burn fat is not telling you the truth. There are many fad diets coming on the market such as the Lemonade Diet or the New Cabbage Soup diet. Avoid these diets like the plague." "There is no scientific evidence to back up their claims. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that there are no magic bullets to losing weight." "Many fad diets like the Lemonade diet also claim to cleanse the body and that cleansing promotes weight loss. This may sound good to the unsuspecting but it has very little to do with weight loss. First of all, the best way to cleanse your body is to eat a high fiber, low fat diet which promotes elimination." "A balanced diet with limited amounts of animal fat, particularly red meat, plus plenty of water and exercise is what really cleanses the body of toxins. Unfortunately, this fact is usually misrepresented by folks wanting to pedal their weight loss products to the nutritionally naive." Presented as unedited quotes from: http://2stepweightloss.com/lemonade-diet.htm I make no personal claims as to the quality of the sourced information.
  • The Lemonade diet is hardly a "fad diet." It was developed over 60 years ago as the "Master Cleanser" but many since have nicknamed it the "lemonade diet". No, it is not intended as a miracle weight loss diet. It is intended as a body cleansing juice fast for health. Anyone not familiar with the emotional and physical benefits of fasting should look into it. I want to stress the fact, it is not about weight loss! That can be a side effect but people are truly missing the point. To address another user's comment, I have never read in the Master Cleanser book or anywhere that claims that "lemons burn fat". Cleansing does however, promote individuals to promote weight loss within themselves. It has to start from deep inside, something the Master Cleanser has triggered in people for many years. It can be life changing. Doctor's article on the Master Cleanser and fasting. www.elsonhaas.com/articles/article_05.html
  • After reading all the postings it appears that the main point of the master cleanser is lost....it is not a fad diet and it was not intended to lose weight. The purpose is to cleanse your system and flush out toxins. If you werent eating healthy before and your body is full of toxins you can bet that when you start this cleanse you will experience a bit of time on ''the stool'...this is your bodys way of flushing itself. Once you have flushed your system you should then carry on a healty diet to minimize the reintroduction of toxins. I view and use the master cleanser in the same fashion as I view changing the oil in my car...it is used as a tool to keep the body running smoothy not as a crash and burn diet. I must also say that the benefits of doing this cleanse made me feel a lot healthier and gave me a lot more energy that i had been lacking before. I did this cleanse then followed with starting a healthy diet which must go hand in hand with each other in other for the cleanse's effect to be beneficial. Just as when you change the oil in your car you put in fresth clean oil to make your car run better..
  • I just finished my first 12-day Master Cleanse. It was quite an experience. I was in a rut; depressed and prone to fatigue. I hoped the Master Cleanse might jolt me out of my rut. It did. I feel a lot better. I have more energy, a brighter outlook, and a feeling of accomplishment. I have a new attitude toward food. If I feel hungry for a snack or something to "munch" on, I just live with it. I don't respond to the impulse. The concoction as prescribed in the manual is too sweet for me, so I used less lemon and less syrup. I didn't drink the cayenne pepper, which made the lemonade taste wretched. I swallowed the cayenne in capsule form. Otherwise, I followed the program to the letter. I lost a few pounds into the bargain. I supposed there is no scientific evidence to support the merit of this program. Does that make it quackery? If you need confirmation from some agency, then yes.
  • It seems that the following forum is incorrectly stated that the book did not mention that it helps with fat reduction. ON page 13 under the heading Is the Diet Also A Reducing Diet? It states That it dissolves and eliminates all types of fatty tissue. Fat melts away at the rate of 2 lbs a day for most people. So, please re-read the book and verify your information you are giving to everyone. Thank you The Lemonade diet is hardly a "fad diet." • With my own experienceI have gotten rid of the pain in my hands that progressively got worse over a 5 year period of time. I figured this was arthritis which has plagued many woman in my family. I now know that it was toxins built up in my joints from years of improper eating habits. I also suffer from poor digestion which causes poor elemination. The lemonaid worked very well in cleansing my intestines. I saw a noticable diffrence in the swelling of my stomach going down the more i was able to empty my intestines. The almost constant pain in my upper abdomon area was no longer there and this was only after 10 days. I lost 25 pounds but that was only a fringe benifit, my over all health was much better. My skin looked healthy and a planters wart that was so bad on my foot i was heading for surgery if this didn't work, completly disappeared. The knowledge in the tiny book " The Master Cleanser" has changed my life.
  • August 14, 2006 I am starting in tomorrow, but didn't purchase all the right ingredients. I purchased the Grade A maple syrup that states it is 100% natural, and 100% natural lemon juice, and cayenne pepper in the bottle. I think my ingredients are not pure enough and I need to change them. I will start with the above ingredients for the next few days, but later will invest in the natural products as recommended. I will get back with this forum in about 12 days from now, if God says the same. :) I am really ready to cleanse my body and began eating healthier to promote a healthier lifestyle.
  • I am currently doint the MASTER CLEANSER/ Lemonade Diet. This is my half way point. I have always been in love with food, and loarge amounts of it. I began the diet weighting 138lbs. I also measured my thighs, ankles, arms, stomach, and breast. I have already lost cenimeters from my legs, calfs, stomach, and arms. I know it says your not suppost to let you become hungry but I do get that way, especially when i smell food. I think about food all the time. My lower stomach hurts at least half of the day. I don't know if you all know this but you are suppost to be taking natural laxitives every night & morning. I bet that this is where the pains are coming from. I do feel alot healthier and i was previously depressed and i feel that sluffing away. I quess it is the fact that i am completing a diet for the whole time. I will keep you all posted on my progress and my ending results. If you have any questions email me @ alishaj@gmail.com
  • It is the Cayenne Pepper that burns the fat off because ut breaks up a lot of mucus and acid. But you're right. This is a cleansing fast, not a "diet."
  • I just got off the diet after my 6th day. My digestive track became so acidic, I could not take the lump in my throat and esophagus constant burning due to reflux. It even hurt to swallow warm tea. Once off and eating food again, symptoms immediately went away. Just think it was too much acid for my digestive track. Other than that, the diet was just okay.
  • I wished I had found the Master Cleanse earlier. Quite a while ago my friend told me of a cleanse that consisted of drinking only water for 1 week. All that happened was I felt hungry the whole week. I tried the Master Clease recently and found nothing but pros with it, and would highly recommend it.
  • I have been on the master Cleanse for three days now....I have not suffered from hunger pains but I have a family at home that is not on the diet and must cook everyday...So I have been suffering from the torture of cooking and not being able to eat. I have had alot of problems with digestion and am hoping that the master cleanse will help with that although I can stand to lose a few pounds my main goal is to get my body back in order. I eat very healthy to begin with and notice that I hardly eliminated during a 1 week period.. Using the salt water wash has been a blessing. I feel more energetic in the morning. I have alternated the laxative tea for a teaspoon of epsom salt in a cup of peppermint tea due to the uncontrollable cramping I recieve when intaking senna. On the thrird day I am getting the film on my tongue and it is slightly sore. But I have found that Toms all natural mouthwash (mint & witchhazel) before brushing helps eliminate the film and soothes the soreness. I also found that if placing the cayenne pepper in your lemonade that you can use more cayenne pepper during the afternoon and evening than in the morning and it makes using the cayanee pepper easier. Well that's it ...I guess I will be back in seven more days to let you know my progress.
  • Well, for one, I don't like Lemonade....
  • I am a little skeptical but am probably looking for reasons to stop, im on the eve of day 5 and really miss eating. Many great benefits, lots of energy skin is smooth, weight loss, slimmer everywhere especially my stomach , cellulite disappering and just feeling clear headed, hopeful, and reallly understanding how much gunk I put in my system( and I am a relatively good eater and exerciser) and how often I randomly graze on food and really am not even hungry when I was grazing. Over all I feel a since of accomplishment and feel like getting back to the basics of healthy eating. Over the hump tomorrow. Lookin for ward to a big salad full on cucumbers, green onions, sprouts, tomatoes, oh man Im gettin hungry. I think it is a good thing. Thanks, Crystal Coke Dallas texas
  • i have been into fasting and detoxing for years have used the lemons and honey for years ~ but the addition of the cayenne has been miraculous ~ i have such rosy cheeks you would think i was sunburned and my breath is sweet even in the morning ~ i did not need to lose weight but i am a few pounds lighter so it must have been toxins ~ i think it is easiest and safe for those who are vegetarians ~ who eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables as a matter of course
  • i have done this fast on a couple of occasions to DETOX. and it WORKS.i've only done 3 to 7 days. by the 2nd day your breath starts smelling as the toxins starts being released from the body also your lower back and upper back aches, again because of the toxins being let out.the 2nd day is a bit hard but by the 3rd day, you start realizing why jesus fasted. it is so still and clear within your head- it is bliss. another amazinig sight is to see you skin changing right before your eyes. the skin litterally gets clearer, smooth, glows, it's almazing. I love this fast because it's simple, cheap and it works. i highly recommend it. you just have to get into the mind set in order to go through with it. i love food. i'm not a hog, nor do i eat junk but i really have to focus and commit before i attempt to do this. all in all, an A+
  • I find that the lemonade diet has transformed me into a very positive person. Even when facing the greatest adversities in life now, I try to turn lemons into lemonade. :)
  • Well diets where you only eat one thing, or it revolves around one thing, are nothing more than a quick fix. And then you stop and you go back to being fat again, and probably more unhealthy and malnourised than before. Sticking to only one thing, or cutting something out of your diet completely is nonsense. It's better to have a healthy, balanced diet as a whole, not just go ON diets. Does that make sense? Instead of looking for the latest and greatest, why not change the way you eat- for good? When you go on a diet where you only eat one or two things, you're malnourishing your body. Youre eating WAY less calories than you should be to maintain a healthy body- considering your organs need calories to continue working! Also, you're not getting the necessary and basic nutrients your body needs. Instead of going on the "lemonade diet" or the "Hard boiled egg and shot of vinegar diet" (yes that one's real)- why not just eat healthier and excercise? You'll actaully look better when your body is toned, and not just stick skinny.
  • You would totally ruin all the nostalgia that is intertwined with a glass of lemonade. Instead of those old "Country Time" commercials playing in your head, you would associate lemonade with a diet. That would be a little sad.
  • Every BODY is different. Do what works for you. For ME. My benefits of doing a 17-day master cleanse was: - lost 17 lbs. (which I have kept off for more than a year, but I also increased exercise after going off of the cleanse and reduced the amount I ate significantly. If you go back to your old eating habits, of course the weight will come back - increased energy (during and after the cleanse. i had all kinds of blood tests done to determine the source of my fatigue. I am now convinced it was the toxins stuck in my colon, which are now gone) - cleared complexion - eliminated depression - improved mental clarity - improved overall health I only wish I had discovered this cleanse when I was 20 instead of 40. I've had a lifelong issue with weight. And I no longer do. If I gain a few pounds, I cleanse for a few days. And I've maintained the weight I lost. I am not saying this is for everyone and works for everyone. But it worked for me. And I feel blessed that I saw Beyonce on Oprah talking about it...and I googled and found more info online and did it...a year ago.
  • It is my understanding that while on this diet, an individual has a real penchant for turning lemons into lemonade in life.
  • The diet..does not use Lemonade..it is called that because of the lemons involved..but lemonade..which contains a lot of sugar is not used.... the maple syrup gives the body what it needs for a day..the lemosn act as a natural appetite surpressant...and also are a natural diuretic....the cayenne pepper has amazing healing qualities to it..research it and see ..the herbal tea..to clean system of the toxins that have been washed into your colon..cleanses you in a naturally gentle way.. It works..it is not to be done for more that 10 days..though:: Even replacing one meal with one of the drinks is an option..or just one day of 'cleansing' since that is what this truly is... a cleansing of the system..the bi product is that you lose weight...you lose crud on the cellular level... and with that is some fat:: this is an excellent way to rejuvinate your body..and if you mix it appropriately you are not hungry..using real lemons..pure maple syrup and cayenne pepper...with 8 ounces of water ....the feel of energy, the release of fatique...is wonderful.. is easy to mix a days work in a jug..and put in the fridge or heat as a hot tea.... I suggest all to try it.:: Cayenne pepper is amazing;;; toss it on your food daily::
  • I will give you the results from my personal experiences from going through the cleanse now for the third time.I am not sure if what I am doing is called the lemonade diet, for what I do is mix cayenne pepper, maple syrup, and fresh lemon juice in water.I do it as a toxin cleanse when I feel the body is getting unhealthy . I am on my 5th day now,and drink about a quart or two a day,and some laxative tea.As usual I was a little hungry about the second day,but that goes away for the lemon suppresses hunger pangs. After that it is easy, and my acid stomach is gone, and my TMJ has cleared up considerably. At about the 4 day a felt a little tired and knew it was the toxins coming out.The last 2 times I completed the 10 days of cleanse I was alert,my body felt great, and I had much energy,as well as my ailment went away. When on the cleanse the first time I was working 12 hour days the whole time and doing heavy lifting much of the time.So the fallacy of feeling weak when not eating is not true.I would personally recommend it to ones that need to get rid of toxins in the body, which is about everyone.
  • Hey guys! I did four full days of no eating and drinking that spicy elixir. I was ready to go on for another week but THANK GOODNESS Vanessa (my best friend) provided me with a escape door for my stubborness: I called her after the fourth day for a chat, ended up telling her what I was doing - she FREAKED and got so angry at me for being stupid and immediately sent me links and studies with TONS of examples of the harm that these 'starvation diets' can do to you (mostly including all the things I wrote beneath). She told me she wouldn't get off the phone with me until I told her I would quit. I was feeling so miserable, SO MISERABLE- I was so happy to have her give me an escape!!! Also found out that the author of the diet killed some of his patients and was convicted of second degree murder and giving medical advice without a license... If you are interested in the results: Pluses: -Better skin -Diminished desire for unhealthy foods (fried/fatty/dairy (not saying that's unhealthy but for some reason it's turned me off dairy for now)) -Lost Three kilos in four days (but I think this is extremely harsh and not healthy for the body) -Feeling of cleanliness on the morning of the third day -Happy that I experimented the detox for myself -Pleased to learn that I my originial reaction (ie ALL OF YOUR INITIAL REACTIONS) was correct. Minuses: -Feeling terribly foolish (because I wanted to believe so much that it was good for you) -Eyes red and irritated -Woke up to pangs of pain (stomach) -Hungry after the second day - VERY HUNGRY after that! -Tired: I tried to force myself to believe that I was not but really just wanted to sleep (esp when I got home from work) -Moody: Snappy at Julien, sharp to coworkers and friends, 'angry' at people who were eating (this was the weirdest part - I was really MAD that they were eating, like an animal...), short temper and unreasonable stubborness, crankiness -Uncharacteristically unhappy! Sad for what seemed like apparently no reason, really SAD that I couldn't have food, depressed about it in a way... -Angry, sad, and depressed that my social life for the ten days would be close to zero It was bad - thank goodness it's over! Food is so good :) Ha ha just thought you guys might want to know how it went.
  • The first time I tried the cleanser, I prepared it wrong and was constantly hungry, so I drank more of the elixir. I have mitral valve prolapse and suffered from pains in my chest if I did not eat. After going on the cleans a second time, I no longer have pains in my chest if I don't eat. I no longer experience heart palpitations. I am going to start the cleans again today. I have fibroids and I am trying to reduce them naturally. I'll let you know.
  • can i excercise during the diet ? can my body take it?
  • i use the lemonaide diet or Master Cleansing diet whichever one wants to call it, both for cleansing and for diet purposes. Ive been on it for periods of up to 5 days at a time and while on it always feel great with plenty of energy. i was doing 2 hrs of running daily with no problems while on this diet, thou it is recommended that one takes it easy and not be too overly physical while on it. In my own case I do always loose weight when on it over 4 pounds in 3 days. taniaaust1
