Can anyone tell me how to measure the carbination in a bottle of soda when opened?

Does sqeezing the air out of a plastic 2-liter bottle of soda keep the soda from going as flat, or does crushing it give the CO2 more room to expand?. I think the CO2 would just push out the sides of the bottle, like a balloon as it escapes the soda?

Are you good at guessing how much fizz you will have when pouring a soda or do you usually go too fast and make your soda fizz over?
