S2 controller button issues category

When I put games in my PS2, they do weird things. On one of my games, the character starts jumping when I don't want it to. On one of my other games, when I go to a menu, it starts clicking options when I'm not pressing anything. What do I do?

The lefe side of my PS2 controller is not responding i.e directional buttons and L1 and L2 buttons. I have tried using a new controller but problem remains. What could this be?
