Juan Rodrigues Cabrillo was the Portuguese explorer who discovered California on 9-28-1542 when he sailed into the bay that would eventually be called San Diego. Cabrillo Day is celebrated in San Diego each year around the 28th of September and includes Portuguese music, dancing, and a renactment of the discovery of the San Diego Bay.
