  • I don't.
  • I believe it's missing a 'C'
  • It is the worst form of music, and like toe-tag said, crap!
  • rap is a very beautiful way of expressing music that most people dont really understand now im not talking about the rap you hear on the radio or see on MTV that is definatley missing the "c" im talking about the R&B, Hip - Hop the stuff that has soul and feeling behind it.
  • Depends on the rap. I'm not interested in the kind of rap that talks about bling and hoes and guns and how great the rapper is and how much he loves his homies or whatever. The earlier types of rap that explored social issues and had vaguely interesting lyrics (like Public Enemy and Run DMC) I don't mind so much- its not my favorite type of music, but I have a certain respect for it as an art form.
  • Along with heavy metal, they are the lowest common denominators in music.
  • I don't get it. Of course my parents didn't get The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. The fact that they appeared on prime time on The Ed Sullivan Show lent a bit of creadence though. Time will tell.
  • I USED TO HATE IT! lol i would always think u cant spell CRAP with out RAP! (which is already stated her) but Now i albsoulty love it! I just dont like the stuff alot of it says. Its so degrading to women.. bUT still I lOvE it!
  • Even if there are good things underneath the surface, as Intellegensia claims there is, the majority of people who don't like this type of music can't get past the loud, aggressive, egotistical maniacs and downright "in your face" style & mannerisms that characterises this music. Treating women like dirt and disrespectfully doesn't help endear us to this culture either. For me, its not really about the music because the whole genre seems to be all about the stratospheric ego of the "singers" and "what they are, what they've done and what they can do for you/us/me". Its not that they want to entertain us, its why we should be in awe of them. And anyway, these so-called "artists" aren't really singing are they ? Its just narrative (like The Wonder Years) using mostly undecipherable words, which is understandable considering the microphone is halfway down their mouths when they use them.
  • its horrible and degrades women. it's disgusting.
  • I think I might have a problem with my ears. Most of the time I listen to rap, I can't hear a word they're saying. :(
  • Packaged, commercialized, sold, and sold out. BUT, like any genre, it depends on the artist and their motives. One thing I have found about rap is that a good rapper can communicate their situation extremely well, and while they may not tell you directly how they feel, there is a sort of empathy that is a fascinating listening process. Take their words and their expression, and convert it to how you would feel in the same situation. It's really an incredible emotive process when done well. Unfortunately, most commercial rappers don't apply to this.
  • Like rock n roll, it's an outlet for artistic expression no matter the subject matter. It is no differant than most other genre's other than it is promoted and publicized by more corporate sponsors than anyother type of medium pertaining to music, these corporate sponsors target the MTV youth movement of a given era and endorse and promote such influence as the "IN" fad, to generate cashflow from the susceptible and influetial youth of the world, and to increase their investor's stock portfolio's. The main message of rap seems to revolve around mysoginism, drugs, gang violence, anti-religous sentiments, and of course lots and lots of unbridled sexual influence upon it's young listener's.
  • Didn't like the early rap songs - but was introduced to some of the later songs and really liked them! Favorites are Nelly, Chingy, Ying Yang Twins, Outkast to name a few. Sometimes just giving a new music genre some 'listen to' can help your opinion. What I think is unfair is to pass judgment on any kind of music without giving it a chance.
  • Amazing, some of it speaks to me. Im mostly a death metal fan. I listen to rap if im not listening to that. Calling it crap doesnt put what you listen to any higher on the totem pole. Just say you dont like it. You dont understand it so stfu. Yes some of it is shit because it is mainly about drugs money and hos. But down among all that there are truly talented artist.
  • I understand the artistry of rap and the evolution of this type of music. My problem with rap is the lack of musicianship. Most rappers don't have a band. They rely on backing music that is usually pre-recorded and contain nothing but sampling and beats produced by software. Anyone can make "beats". You click on a grid to fill up the spaces with sound. And samples aren't used to piece together something interesting -like a collage. Samplers are reusing almost the whole song. It's not too different than what Weird Al does. Rhythmic heavy "melodies" are what rap is based on. But so many rappers are using the same rhythms.
  • I dig it.
  • i am addicted to it. listening to good hip-hop is like being told a story. mainstream rap (the rap you hear on the radio and see on mtv etc.) is basically what people address when they state their opinion on hip-hop/rap. from listening to basically all of it, i can tell you that it is mostly about rappers' "bling bling", cars, money, and their women (which they downgrade.) expressed through profane, illiterate language. this is what is ruining the genre and is unappealing to most adults. however, when you search and listen to all types of hip-hop/rap such as underground (the hip-hop/rap that has not made it to the radio stations or mtv etc. and usually tells stories related to that rappers life) is awesome. some of these rappers are extremely gifted with the ability to rhyme and use similies and metaphors to express themselves. hip-hop/rap is a great genre of music that to most people is either hated or loved but should be at least respected by all.
  • Rap=CRAP
  • I agree with Toe-Tag, it is missing a "C", can you imagine this crap being played at a high school reunion 20, 30,40,50 years from now,too bad I won't be alive to see the look of horror on the faces of these idiots, as they realize that they were idiots.
  • im not gonna lie,i love the old school rap,and i love the bass. Now that im older its kinda get old,its not so bad as it used to be but ,im a little older now and i think i kinda grew out of it.
  • I used to not like it, until I got some subs that packed 153 dB into the car. Chris Martin just wasn't doing it for me.
  • raps ok, some rap is good, the other isn't. The good ones are like T pain, lil jon, Fort Minor, akon etc. But man I hate 50 cent.
  • in general rap is crap but some of it i can tolerate
  • I dont listen to it, but I suppose it has its usefulness as a good subject matter in Music Appreciation class.
  • well, lemme tell ya a little story. once upon a time, i lived in a world where my sister hadn't gone to college yet. her taste in music was very mainstream; she thought that if it was on the radio, it must be good. so there was this time when she REALLY jumped onto the bandwagon of mainstream music. unfortunately for me, she drove me to school every day, and pretty much brainwashed my malleable mind into something so awful that i can barely speak of such a thing today. she made me listen to rap and hip-hop twenty-four-seven. it consumed me. i had to be the most rap-a-philic hip-hop addicted little blonde girl in the 8th grade. but FORTUNATLY, all of this changed. one fine day, i was introduced to a new genre of music. REAL music. with REAL instruments. and REAL lyrics. ROCK MUSIC. my musical views took a change for the better. and when my sister finally left for college, that's when my love for music REALLY took off. it wasn't just rock that i was listening to, it was way more. emo, screamo, hxc [or hardcore for the musically challenged], alternative, some metal, and just plain old rock. so i bought my first guitar soon after, and now i look back and see that old me, the one who liked rap and hip-hop, and i cringe. how could i have been so musically blind? or just plain deaf?! sure, there are SOME drawbacks, like being tormented because i'm 'emo' or whatever, but you know what? i'd take the torment for listening to the music i like, dressing how i dress, and being who i am now, over listening to rap 'music' anyday. downgrade all ya want, rap fans. i'm just glad i got to state my opinion. thanks for your time. =]
  • I like some rappers, more into R&B.Not into country rock and roll I consider that crap. You all fail to realize that the rappers are getting paid off the little children and they are not all minorites, and the parents hate it that shit is funny.Don't be so quick to judge music because the Music station and white clubs are playing just as much rap and r&b as alternative music.STOP HATING YOU WANT TO BE DOWN TO JUST SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • its going downhill. I get tired of hearing sinful refrences in the music. but i like what hip-hop used to be.
  • I think it is a good genre of music. I like it.
  • It's not for me but I have no problem with the fact that others do. My only objection is not being able to hear my own music at the stoplight because the rap from the car next to me is deafening.
  • When pumped way past ten. Its hard to continue with my nap ;)
  • I think some of it is... interesting writing I suppose.
  • I'm more of the rock and roll fan. Also into a good symphony orchesrta.
  • I don't really care for rap music. I'm a pianist. I've been into classical music since I was 9. I'm now 36. I play Clayderman and Gershwin and will soon start learning Rachmaninoff. Rap? What would be the point? I'd rather listen to a cow say moo.
  • RAP (Rhythm and Poetry) music barely resembles it's stated moniker.
  • It's...a different form of music...I'm not especially accustomed to it, but I'm sure anyone can develop a taste for it.
  • I like rap, wish all music was less vulgar
  • Most of the lyrics are unintelligible due to close-miking, poor enunciation, and non-standard language. Perhaps turning down the backing would help, a slower tempo, and watch the pronunciation.
  • i like rap... well.. i used to love rap but i believe as i grew older, all the hate against it finally settled into My brain and now i just liek it :S like* it :)
  • It's alright. It's not my favorite kind of music, but I have diverse musical tastes, so it fits in there. Granted, I like only about one in one hundred rap songs, but I think even one is enough for me to say that I like it.
  • I think that rap used to be about expression of emotions regarding current events and affairs in America, or lyrically involving meaninful subject matter. It wasn't until false stereotypes began to be pressed against the hip hop culture that it really began to take on a new form. Not all recent rap is meaningless, but because of the way America has downgraded it, the culture of hip hop has received a bad reputation.
  • Some is crap and some is good....
  • I was once very excited when I heard some rap I liked. But then the band sold out to Hollywood and is now what you hear in Austin Powers movies. So I guess I'm not a true rap aficionada. Don't ever tell my students, but I think rap is too seldom poetic, and lousy instrumentally. I crave those good ol' excellent guitar riffs.
  • i dont know why most of yall are hatin on rap. there aint nuthin rong with it!!!
  • Can't have christmas without it!
  • You did say crap, right?
  • I hate it.
  • I gave the OP the few points I could give. Rap is not for me, for my culture though, so I can't relate to it. I don't like glorification of the low life, calling women names for instance. If there is something positive about it, I'm all ears, always ready to learn.
  • well to me Rap is the early stuff and the funny and or meaningful stull (Run DMC, the Fat Boys, Afroman, Fresh prince, the movie Beat Street) the other stuff, gangster rap, pimps and ho's rap, the whole thug life noise, I file under CRAP if it is two hundred curse words strung together with a few nouns and adjectives, it's just cursing, not music. if it's just unintelligable vocal sounds with no meaning, it's just noise and if it's the same 3 to 5 words repeated over and over again, it's a broken record
  • I like a very limited amount of rap...Mostly because a large amount of it is garbage. One rapper I like is Immortal Technique because he has a message in his songs unlike most other rappers.
  • Some of it is very catchy and has good rhythm, some of it even has something important to say...I listen and like that. Some of it is disgusting and filthy and says the same stuff over and over..that I have no use for.
  • in my opinion id always add a capital 'C' to the beginning of that word.
  • (makes raspberry sound with lips) Oh though, and I hate to admit it, I've been hearing some rap lately (because of BF) and SOME sounds ok. I like tht older stuff cuz this new rap is just "bla bla bla, I'm the greatest, lookit my gold/boat/hooka/benz /bentley/ass" and so much posturing and b.s.'ing to the media and just shut, maaaaaan! But I'm open to anything original.
  • It sucks. ...what? I not gonna waste a clever remark on this. When will this generation's "disco" go away?
  • I DESPHATE it!!! (Had to create a new word to get the right feeling--desphate (v), to despise and hate at the same time!!!) The ONLY consolation about (c)rap music, is that the people creditted with bringing this "music" into focus, i.e., SUGARHILL GANG, RUN DMC, HOUDINI, KURTIS BLOW, KID N PLAY, etc., are now OUTGROWING it!!! (Hopefully, it will follow the DISCO craze--right into oblivion!!!!)
  • I hate most of it.
  • The designs are normally awful. I prefer a plain coloured paper, neatly stickered and with a little bow on the box. Thumbs down for rapping paper.
  • I dont consider it music but more of an expression of dysfunction. It seems like they use the F word almost continually, I guess for lack of a better word they can come up with. I do think it tells a story, but usually its sad.
  • Methink rock&roll jealous to the core.
  • Rap rhymes with crap for a reason. mr Bill
  • Rap = crap
