Epinephrine cannot diffuse through the cell membrane. How then, does it exert its effects inside the cell?

It binds to alpha and beta-adrenoreceptors which are g-protein coupled so initiate second messenger systems. I can't remember which system (IP3, DAG etc) is activated by each receptor offhand but that should give you a starting point to look it up.
