Just once.

It depends upon if you have a Sunday or a Monday newspaper. Just once for the Sunday newspaper and maybe 4 times for the slim Monday edition.
-
Regarding its original size: Once.

No paper regardless of size can not be folded more than 8 times. This is an old trick I have known since I was a young boy.

7-23-2017 It only depends on the size of the newspaper. Every time you fold you increase the radius of the next fold. When the radius exceeds the size of your folded paper, you can't fold it again. But if the paper is big enough, there is no particular limit to the number of folds. Now here is the trick: You said "half". You can only fold it in half once. The next fold is quarters, and so on.

ThinkerEven if the paper is 1 mile by 1 mile it still cannot be folded more than 8 times.
