They don't appear around me. The way you worded your question doesn't make much sense, as in, it's somewhat contradictory. You stated they appear when 'you are near'. Well, if you're near them of course they're going to be around you, and you're the one that's appeared, not them. For example, if you walk into Trafalgar Square, then it's a pretty dure bet that you'll be surrounded by birds, and you'd be classed as the one doing the 'appearing', not them.

I don't know. I think they like my hair. I used to walk through the downtown post office parking lot in Reno, and every day a bird would swoop down and try to pull my hair out. Pigeons would come into the store where I worked and follow me around the aisles till I picked them up and put them back outside. Or they'd sit in the windows and stare at me. One morning when we opened up the store and got inside, there was a pigeon who flew right up to me. I stopped dyeing my hair red, so haven't had any avian incidents since.
