Both ways, depending on what is the main course. Not sugared when beans and ham/fish and cabbage/taters/onions are the course. But, with glazed ham and sweet potatoes and sweet peas, I like the sweet cornbread. Or, just the sweet cornbread in a bowl of milk.

I would prefer to have it without sugar. The corn makes it sweet enough for me.
-
i've never had cornbread but apparently its healthy cause its got a lot of calcium.
-
No sugar. And in cabbage soup or a bowl of beans. Yum!!!!!!!
-
I like it both ways, depending on my mood and what is served with it. I also like mexican-cornbread. I've never made it myself, but one of my mechanic's wife brings some in once in awhile. She says all ya gotta do is add a jar of your favorite salsa. Good stuff.

My recipe uses one teaspoon of sugar, you don't even taste it.
-
Sweet and yellow. Lots of sugar. That's the kind I grew up on. I love it with butter and I also love cornbread and milk. We always put the hot cornbread right into a tall glass with milk and eat it with a teaspoon. Mmmm. :)
-
I like just a touch of sugar, maybe a tablespoon or so if it has some flour in it. But if it's straight cornmeal, I don't like sugar with it. I'd rather eat it with some honey:-) Or crumbled n my bowl of chili.

I like cornbread with some sugar. I like sweet treats.
-
i like it made WITH sugar! lol...
-
No sugar. Just cormmeal, buttermilk, an egg, a little water and hot oil. It's got to have a crispy crust, too.
-
I make cornbread on a regular basis at my house (it is one of my families favorite things I cook) and I do not use sugar in mine. I do however use buttermilk and every now and then when I am feeling a little spicy I make Mexican cornbread which is unbelievably GOOD. It is loaded with corn, jalopeno's and cheese and you will not find a crumb left when my family gets through with it. LOL

Southern-made cornbread contains no sugar. No sugar used here. Its cornbread to be consumed with a meal, its not a dessert. My wife is a cornbread expert and makes the very best in the world.
-
Both, it depends on what I'm serving it with. I usually add at least a pinch though, sugar brings out the saltiness without adding as much salt. Always cook in cast iron for the best crispy edges. YUM!

We make a "Fiesta Cornbread" using Creamed Corn, Mango, Pineapple, Sugar, Green Chiles & Cheddar Cheese. Kinda a "Desert Treat" with "Kick"! We bake it in a cast iron "Saguaro Cactus" mold pan & serve them standing Upright as Desert in Large Goblets of Tapioca Pudding. John & Tam

I'm not crazy about cornbread and could live the rest of my life without it. I can remember Sunday nights growing up when that's all we had for dinner was cornbread crumbled up in a glass with milk poured over it. I didn't like it.
-
I can't say if I've ever had cornbread.
-
no idea
-
I prefer my cornbread without sugar.
-
I"ve never really been a fan of cornbread ( its too dry for my tastes ) but if I had to choose I suppose with sugar
-
I like cornbread with a touch of sweetness, but only a touch. I normally like salty things, so I'd rather my cornbread be a little on the "salty-sweet" side (if that makes sense to you PrimeTap!).
-
Is cornbread an American thing? I live in Australia, and have never eaten it!! I guess us sydney residents are missing out?? Anyone got a recipe they'd like to share for corn bread? Maybe we can get a fashion going with the corn bread in sydney!!! haha
-
A little bit of sugar.
-
I use corn syrup in mine. Makes them a little sweeter, yummy.
-
I like it with a little sugar. It doesn't taste good with no sugar. It's too much like cake if there's a lot of sugar.
-
yes, damnit, yes sweet and high, like cake!
-
I like it sweet. We sometimes even mix cornbread mix with yellow cake mix.
-
I love cornbread, and I only love it without sugar. To me, if it is sweet, it tastes like cake, not cornbread. If I want cake, I don't want cornbread.
-
I like it however my mom makes it :]
-
Sugar only... I don't care for the savory kind but even that needs sugar if you ask me.
