My skatefish i just cooked smells so strong...just like amonia..is this normal or not?should i eat it or not?

when fish is fresh it actually has no smell. the older it gets the more it smells. i dont know what skatefish smells like to start off with.... but if it is that bad i personally wouldnt eat it

I believe you are supposed to soak skate before you cook it. Not sure if it is milk you soak it in. I know with dog fish you soak it in vinegar to get rid of the ammonia as the dog fish has the urine smell coming out of it's skin.
