  • I have one of those, too. This is a war-era instrument--I'm pretty sure they were made of metal because of the difficulty of importing the wood they'd otherwise use (and plastic/ebonite hadn't been used yet). Most were made between about 1924-1939. They can be made to play decently (I've done gigs on mine), but they're usually not worth very much... they generally sell between $50-$150 on eBay.
