The worldwide flood that destroyed all life on earth except for Noah, his family, and the animals in the ark occurred in 4990 B.C. In 2 Peter 3 God refers back to this flood and then transitions to the destruction of the universe by fire. In verse 8 God says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." This is interesting because God told Noah to get inside the ark 7 days before He brought the flood (Genesis 7:4). In verse 8 of 2 Peter 3 we read that interesting Scripture. If we add 7000 to 4990 B.C. (1 day = 1000 years) we arrive at the year 2011 A.D. Is this the year Christ will return as the "Lion of the tribe of Judah" to rapture the saints, destroy the universe bringing judgment on the ungodly, and create a new Heaven and Earth? Doomsday dates are rolled out every so often (2012 is the currently popular one) and none have come to pass so far. So based on the correct number of predictions compared against the total number of predictions one would estimate the probability of this occuring to be incredibly small indeed. :)

No, the year 2011 AD is not the most probable year for the return of Christ. It is not any more or less probable than any day of the year. The Bible says "no one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father", and, "the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night".

Why 2011? Jesus thought it'd be within a lifetime of his Leaving. Peter thought so too. Paul thought it would be within his lifetime. John thought so too. Every single generation of christians since then have believed it'll be within their lifetime and they were in the End Times. Not a good record eh...?

No one knows the day or time or year or month or decade or century or millennium, etc. See proof provided by AnaContessa in her previous answer. God wants us to be ready for his coming day or night. The believer is in the world but not of the world, they look forward always to heaven, which we receive because we know and believe that Jesus lived, died and rose for us and did what we couldn't. He took away our sins. What a great comfort no matter when the end comes.

Knowing the day and the hour is not saying we can't know the time. We have to consider the whole Bible to find truth. God never brought judgment in the past without revealing it first to a prophet (Noah and Jonah for example). Which is exactly what we read in Amos 3:7.

The Bible says that the coming of Christ will be like the days of Noah. Noah certainly knew the date of the flood and the end of the world. Noah was told to get in the ark within 7 days. Here's another one. On the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in 26,000 years. Does that imply December 21, 2012 is Judgement Day? Nope.

Each new Christian denomination seems to worry about the end of the world a bit too much. Then after a couple of centuries, they realize that there are always wars and rumors of wars, etc. I won't even mention the hundreds of false predictions of the end of the world over the centuries, all of which were based on individual interpretations of biblical prophecies. The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns. The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
