When trying to start my 2002 Dodge Caravan, it dies. It just spins the flywheel but does not turn the belt or engine. What's wrong?

sounds like the torque converter, chrysler had many problems with there transmissions in the caravans, check recalls, might be coverd

hi, if the stater is ingauging the flywheel and turns it and the front of the engine pulleys aren't turning it sounds like the crank shaft snaped. but the first part of your question says it starts and dies, the starting and dying is often the auto shut down relay.this reay is desinge to shut of the fuel system if the computer doesn't see the engine start with in three to five seconds. i hope this helps shane

sounds like the center of the flywheel is broken clear of the ring gear section of it. replace the flywheel and your problem will be solved.
