G Tek is a company that makes bluetooth (wireless) devices out of Taiwan. I would assume software was installed to be used with this device. If you no longer use the application / driver / program that is associated with this device and there is no entry under Add/Remove programs (START>RUN>APPWIZ.CPL [enter]) for said program, I'd assume it is OK to delete that folder. If you are unsure you can try moving or renaming the folder in case you need to put it back if you see problems after the change.

I found this GTek folder twice on my computer, in C:Documents and Settings[my name]Application DataGTek & C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataGTek Puzzled like many, I Googled it and ended up here. However, I don't think its spyware - on drilling down through the folders & looking at the files contained within the above directories, one contained the web address http://h30043.www3.hp.com /hpdj/en/check=ch1 This doesn't work, but http://h30043.www3.hp.com/hpdj/en/ takes you to a page which contains one large gif picture, branded as HP (Hewlett Packard). I rooted around my registry, and found a similar web address under the Gtek key http://h30043.www3.hp.com/hpdj/en/check This takes you a page that's headed 'Welcome to HP's Printer Check - this tool checks printer and computer setup'. It appears that GTek (why its called this I know not) is related to HP products, particularly their printers, and is used to check to see if there is an updated driver for your printer. So probably safe.

Hi. I run AVG Free edition virus software. Several times lately it warns me of a Trojan virus. But when I click to HEAL or SEND TO THE VAULT, it tells me it cannot find the file. Since Free may not handle everything (and I am cheap) I searched for Trojan files on my C: drive. I found a Trojan.ini in the Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataGTEKGTUpdateAUpdatechannelsch1HTMLdiag I deleted the Trojan.ini file but still get VIRUS FOUND. I started to suspect this GTEK folder but the date is May 2005 when I bought my computer and the Trojan.ini is June 2005. Not sure if this is related to my problem since it is old. Maybe AVG did solve the Trojan but not sure why it keeps happening even when I am NOT connect to my modem online. Any explanation or help out there? SteveBucky
