Lorretta Lynn, after all she had to deal through the hard times when women were supposed to be home cooking. She decided to get out their and make a name for herself. She has sang with some of the biggest entertainers in the buisness, over came Mooney Lynns battle with alcoholism and raised her family. And she is still out their on the road.

Loretta Lynn Tammy Wynette Patsy cline

Dolly Parton has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Her songs are full of emotion and feeling and the listener can't help but experience these emotions. The stories she tells with her songs often bring tears to your eyes and just as often a smile to your face. Though I have not personally met Ms. Parton, I feel extremely priviledged to have her music in my life. I feel music is one of God's greatest gifts to man kind and I think He is pleased every time he hears Dolly's beautiful voice. B.O.E. Jackson, Ms.

I have to go with Dolly Parton on this one. While all the other choices are awesome, no question about it, Dolly is the only one with longevity and continuing success, including crossover success. Plus, she is the only one who had her own theme park, movies, books, numerous duets with varied artists, and can write superb lyrics.

Joni Mitchell.

Have to put Patsy Cline at the top of the list. From there .. several others .. in no particular order: -- Dolly Parton (for both singing and songwriting) -- Loretta Lynn -- Brenda Lee Then I'd add: -- Reba McEntire -- Emmylou Harris -- Trisha Yearwood Probably "should" add Tammy Wynette or June Carter Cash to pioneering women too .. just don't have them as personal favorites as I do the others. If we come forward in time - don't know where they'll land for all time greats? Then I'd add these voices: -- Martina McBride -- The Judds (yes, I liked the original mother/daughter team up) -- Carrie Underwood Tried to answer oldest to most current. So many different kinds of country .. and I like a lot of 'em. :)

I would pick Patsy Cline or Loretta Lynn. Next in line would be Dolly Parton & Reba Mcentire.....And to tell the truth. There are many others out there who never made it big time. But where just as good or maybe even better. I'll bet there are even a few, who are even AB'ers.......:-)

I love Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood but Im not too sure if they're classed as country.
-
june cater cash reba tanya tucker my namesake
-
There another one worth considering:> Alison Krauss
-
Martina McBride

I agree with most of the answers except for June Carter Cash. Songs with Johnny weren't bad but not a big fan of her solo stuff.
-
My favorite was Loretta Lynn. I also love Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Connie Smith, and Dottie West.
