  • Well, it has been recommended to me by almost everyone who's had problems with Acne, as well as any doctor I visited about it (for a short time I had quite severe acne problems)... I never ended up using it much - I HATE creams and stuff... But it did seem to help while I used it.
  • I used a competitor product called AcneFree for butt pimples. It's around $20.00 and you can get it at Walmart or any big grocery store for like $20.00 bucks or under. My butt is pimple free, so it should work on wherever you have zits.
  • I tried every known non-prescription stuff for my severe acne and nothing worked. I have had acne since I was 13 and now I am 32. I took 6 months of accutane (had red eyes and dry lips and nose bleed twice cause of dryness) when I was 25 and it was totally worth it. It cured my acne about 90%. I still have one here and there but nothing like the face-covering acne I had before using accutane. I wish I had taken accutane when I was 15 (instead of 25) and I would have saved my face so much acne scarring. Also 2 things that GREATLY HELP with acne are: (1) GET AT LEAST 8 HOURS OF SLEEP EVERY NIGHT (2) CHANGE PILLOW CASE EVERY DAY BY REPLACING WITH ONE WASHED IN HOT WATER and if possible, sleep such that your face acne is touching the pillow as much as possible. (try these two things for 2 weeks and your acne might improve by at least 50%)
  • my acne was mild, but i notice a difference when i stop using it...its the only thing thats worked for me
  • My mom had used it and it worked well for her I tried it and ouch my skin hurt. I have dry skin it was of no help to me, its a good system to follow (cleanser, acene cream, moisturizer, exfoliate 2 times a week) its about consistancy I believe and having something totally set up is easy, check out the skin type solution its a good book on it
  • Both my twenty-year-old daughter and I have successfully used it for several years. I have found it to be much less drying but more effective in clearing and preventing acne than prescription treatments that I had previously used. It is important to be consistant in its use to keep bacteria in check. I suggest starting out with using the cleanser and toner morning and night, and using the repair lotion every other morning, gradually increasing to use of the lotion once a day, then possibly twice a day. If you choose to use the lotion at night be aware that it will probably bleach the color out of your pillowcase, so maybe use of a white pillowcase would be best. My daughter and I were surprised to discover that you don't have to dry out your skin to control acne, that having a healthy ph is key to acne prevention and correction. You need very little of each product to clean and treat your skin, and you control how often the Proactive is mailed to you. By the way, I thought I'd save some bucks by trying the alternative found at the end of the Wal-Mart aisle and was very disappointed. I got back on the phone to eat crow and ask for my Proactive back! Best of luck to you.
  • I used it for two year and all I can say is it made my face very very dry and a heck of a lot WORSE. The only thing from proactive that I recomend is the face mask. So far nothing has worked for me but since I have been researching tonight I think I may have found out that my corn allergy is also making my face break out. Guess I will find out in the next few weeks since I am going to stop eating all forms of corn. I will let everyone know what happens.
  • I just started using it. I think it smells like old ladies...the perfume in it is irritating for your skin. The mask thing is good because it makes the swelling and redness go down...but I just hate the smell. I don't think I'm going to keep using it, seeing other peoples reviews. I don't want my skin to get worse O_o
  • My son has used it and one of my daughter's friends (he had really bad acne) and were both helped by it. I have heard that if you stop using it your skin gets worse than it was before treatment. I have also heard the mask is very good.
  • My ex-wife used it for some acne-like skin problems and said that it worked for her. If you can try it through some sort of sample pack or with a money-back guarantee, that might be your best route.
  • It did not work for my daughter, but it works for my son. My guess is that it works best with certain skin types. Daughter has sensitive skin, and son has normal skin. Best of luck.
  • When Proactiv first came out it was great. I used it and it worked, though I didn't have serious acne. I know plenty of people who have used it and seen great results. But that was then. Now it seems they might've changed their formula or something because I bought some for my mom, who has used it before & it worked, but this time around it just made things worse. I've gotten the same reports from friends.
  • Yes I tried it, and no it did not work. Nothing seems to for me.
  • Don't waste your money. It only helps mild cases of breakouts. My 2 kids used it for a year and we finally went to a doctor. If you have serious Acne see your dermatologist and get an RX for 1% Retenoid cream and antibiotic cream. Your skin will clear up in a couple of weeks. Insurance will cover it if prescribed by a doctor.
  • it dries your skin out but works very very well
  • use it! its the bomb, best thing iv eva used on my skin :)
  • I have used it and it works okay and makes your skin not dry like others do. I don't think its worth $60 every month though.
  • It doesnt work for me... but then again it depends on the type of skin you have...
  • I've been using Proactiv since I was eleven and I find that after this long, I'm now 21, I still do occasionally breakout but it's the best thing I've tried for acne ever. The first time I used for the first few years my skin was flawless. But it does like many products stop working as well after a long time because your skin changes. But i have tried EVERYTHING and It's the best product I've tried. It contains benzoyl peroxide, not salycilic acid so if you find that with other products benzoyl peroxide doesnt work then this product might not work for you. but try it..it worked wonders for me.
  • For me, i tried it and my face is still just as bad as always. I did it faithfully for 6 months, and no big change, but i will say i do LOVE the refining mask.
  • It worked for my son who had mild acne, but not for my daughter who has bad acne. I used proactive & many other things that didn't do a thing for her acne. This went on for 3 years until 2 weeks ago. We ordered Neutrogena Skin ID off their website & I am truly amazed at the results!!!! Her acne is about 70% cleared up. So I guess everyone is different on what works for them, but if you want to check it out, go to www.skinid.com.
  • it helped w/my but i still broke out and eventually turned to nat products like tea tree oil and vitamin e oil which has completly cleared my up. but i have a friend who has used pro active faithfully for 3 yrs and has never broken out on it.
  • It didn't work for me.Murad worked 100% right away.Get the $35.00 kit at amazon.com or sephora.com.Worth every penny.
  • Diddnt work for me I use clearasil. I hate the ads though.
  • proactiv does work--- only to an extent... you won't get that same look like the models in proactiv commericals doo.. unless you make-up which is not natural... umm before i had acne.. i used pro. and then i had fewer.. and fewer, and fewer, but never completely cleared... my face is clear now because i havn't been using proactiv for like 2 months.. i just use water and that's it... all natural.. drink alot of water and i watch what i eat.. i eat meat everyday, i just have a new balance... i don't pick at it no moreeee and stuff and i face all my fears by going out... i have 2 advice.. 1 go to Bath and Body works and buy an exfloiation sea scrub for your face and use only like a few grain to watch your face with... every morning.. another thing is... if your face is your less attractive feature.. then try to "wow" the crowd with your clothes.... because the first thing everybody notice in a person is their "eyes and smile" most important... even if people are over weight deals with the same pressure... just find other great features about yourself and show it offf. that will keep your mind off other peoples mind who had their mind on your face... you know?
  • It may work well, but it's bad for your skin, it's ALL chemicals! Everyone I know that used it, hated it, it ruined there skin, One of them, it actually burned their skin, it was horrible.
  • Alyssa Milano,Vanessa Williams, and Jennifer Love Hewitt really do use ProActiv. I think Jessica Simpson did really use it early on in her career when she had adolescent acne. I don't think she gets acne anymore. I am not certain though because she could still be using it and that is why she doesn't have acne still.
  • i used proactiv for about 1.5 years, and i know it works. however, keep in mind: 1. it's expensive. you won't like the pricetag that you have to pay every two months. 2. you have to keep using it, for years probably, to keep acne at bay. it does NOT cure acne, just keeps it at bay, which is why you must keep it up. worse combined with #1. 3. you'll get tired of having to put it on every single day. if you miss a day, you could break out. 4. it makes your morning routine longer - no matter what the commercials say about it being fast, it's not that fast. 5. the lotion in step 3 makes your skin feel tight, which is kind of irritating. 6. you cannot wear makeup with that lotion. liquid, cream, or powder foundations just don't work with it. meaning, if you have scars, you can't cover them up with concealer or foundation, and they will show right through the clear proactiv lotion. ...for these reasons, i stopped using proactiv. i now use only my dermatologist's prescriptions. the facial cleanser is a great makeup remover though, and i still use it for its exfoliating beads.
  • It worked like a charm for me, but I had to stop using it because it was too expensive.
  • I used to use proactive.. it gave me clear beautiful skin.. i rarely broke out.. i stopped using it and i broke out like crazy.. so i went back to the store and bought it.. now im using it again.. and not only is it making my acne go away.. its reducing the acne scars!!
  • it works great, but the only problem i had with it was that once my acne was gone I eventually stopped using the proactive and my acne started to gradually come back.
  • I ordered ProActiv about 6 or 7 weeks ago and am very consistent about using it (I've only missed it like 2 or 3 times), but yet to see completely clear skin. I have to admit, my skin is less red and definitely softer, but the tiny bumps on my forehead have stayed put. I have tiny pink bumps on my cheeks that seem to improve a little bit before coming right back again, but nothing too serious. I've talked to a "live" consultant on the ProActiv website and the girl said that you'll see results in 3-6 weeks, but your skin probably won't be clear until 3-6 months later. (Something they failed to mention on all those celebrity-endorsed commericals.) Typical. Now I don't know what to do, I don't wanna keep wasting my parents money but what if it actually does clear up my skin later on down the road? Idk, but I let my hopes get really high on this one, only to be disappointed yet again.
  • Yea it does work. I think you can use alternatives for cheaper; like the person who wrote acne free. I use that and like it.
  • I used Proactiv for a year when I was around 14 or so. It did nothing for me.
