The black costume spider-man wears after civil war is just a costume or the venom symbiote?

The only time Peter wears the symbiote is before eddie brock becomes venom. After peter gets rid of the symbiote he makes a black costume that he wears for a while after the venom saga is over. After the civil war he goes back to wearing it for a short time. However he still is wearing the black costume in the Avengers comic books.
