Thanks for sharing! George W. Bush, a Republican from Texas started the US-Afghanistan war in October 7, 2001. If you dig deeper, the US wasn't in Afghanistan all those years to deal with Osama bin Laden. The US' main aim in Afghanistan was to keep an eye on everyone in the Middle East. :)

He fulfilled that campaign promise (one that the office of President actually can fulfill - most Presidential campaign promises are not within the President's authority to fulfill). * What reasons did he give? I don't remember. * Was it a fiasco? Yes. (One of relatively few in the Obama administration.) * Did Afghanistan pay the price? Yes. And Pakistan. And Afghanistan is still paying the price (especially the women), and probably Pakistan is still paying the price as well. * Surprisingly: the Taliban has not been seeking revenge on the USA...yet. Perhaps they have too many problems in their own country to go seeking revenge...yet...
  • It was a war that could not be won. The cost was $300 million a day and the loss of American lives was very big.
  • Because we never should have been there in the first place. I said it in 2001, and I said it for 20 years. Pulling out in 2021 was a disaster, but would have only been more of a disaster if we waited longer.
