What does it mean when a person has a beef with someone. Is it an American saying?
It sounds like they will eat someone when they say beef.

Not sure if it's exclusive to American but I'm familiar with the phrase. It simply means you have a problem or take issue with something another person has said or done. There is typically no sharing or exchange of meat involved.
