  • I have had both. A dog requires more work but probably gives more back because it is more dependant on you, whereas a cat can look after itself more. As someone once said, "a dog lives in your home, a cat lets you live in its home."

  • I prefer dogs. I feel they are both more responsive to humans and more useful. But I've got nothing against cats.

  • Yes, both! But I'm not allowed to have pets here. I agree with both answers so far! Dogs are affectionate and cats are cool! But I think I'm allergic to cats. Not sure about dogs and only realized at around the turn of the century that I was allergic. Still it just takes a pill to relieve the symptoms so its not really an issue.

Haha! "around the turn of the century". In my mind, that still means 1900...

Soon no one will remember the 1900's.
  • Dogs make the best pets, in general. They are more altruistic by nature and generally tolerate the habits that humans generally exhibit. Nothing wrong with cats, but the relationship between cats and humans is more recent (order of a thousand of years versus ten thousand for dogs), they tend to be nocturnal by nature versus diurnal humans, they don't tolerate human food as easily, they tend to be more difficult to house train, they are more apt to attack their own housemates, they get more easily annoyed by typical human behaviours, etc. But these are sweeping generalities. Every individual pet and every individual person is different, so there are no guarantees that a particular pet and a particular person will or won't get along until you put them together for a couple of days and see what happens. But I prefer dogs of the two.

I agree with all that EXCEPT: Cats are naturally easier to bathroom train. They instinctually go in dirt and cover it. As long as the litter pan isn't full they will use it.
  • I personally prefer dogs. I have a dog of my own. He is a pug. He is adorable and so full of unconditional love and brings joy into the lives of family members. Most dogs are very loving.

  • I love cats of the female variety but if you're a dog forget it.
