The comic book superheroes are...oddly...into playing dress-up, even though they are adults. But apart from liking to play dress-up, tights are generally better for strenuous exercise in uncontrolled conditions (for example: street fighting). More traditional, baggy martial arts clothing is great in a "ring" during a contest, where the conditions are ideal and controlled. However: that type of clothing tends to snag on things in "the real world". (Round house kick! Oops! Caught the cuff of my pants on this wire sticking out of the wall. Time out, OK?) Tights minimize that problem. *** For the same reason: a limb covered in tights is much more difficult for an opponent to grab than is either a bare limb or a limb covered in loose-fitting clothing.
