According to an animal control officer I heard interviewed, snakes swimming up through toilets can happen, but this is rare. It happens most often in apartment buildings, where someone has tried to flush a snake down a toilet. As you will note, this incident occurred in an apartment building.

Frankly I think its kinda dumb to sit on a toilet without looking in it first. Or not checking for tissue either for that matter. Still I feel so badly for this man!
